Golden Wolves Down Knights, 4-1

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 7, 2025) - Alvernia University (5-7) scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 win over Arcadia University (2-9) on Tuesday night in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia.

The visiting Knights got on the board first with a goal in the 11th minute. Alvernia answered just about a minute and a half later to even the game at 1-1. The Golden Wolves then broke the tie 
in the second quarter and added two more goals for the 4-1 win.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia had the first look of the night on a shot by Caroline Martin that was saved in the ninth minute.
  • Arcadia got on the board with a goal in the 11th minute as Arcadia's Mackenize Clark beat Alvernia goalie Zoe Caloviras one-on-one to give the Knights the early 1-0 lead.
  • It did not take long for the Golden Wolves to answer. Ava Michael evened the game with the assist of Jennah Hershberger at 1-1 with her eighth goal of the season with just under three minutes to play in the opening frame.
  • The Golden Wolves broke the tie early in the second quarter as Kelsy McClintock found Lillian Case for Case's first goal of her Alvernia career to take the 2-1 lead.
  • Four minutes later, Alvernia made it a 3-1 game as Matisyn Derkacs tapped in a shot off the assist of Michael with just over four minutes to play in the half.
  • Arcadia had one look the remainder of the half, but Alvernia blocked the shot to take the 3-1 lead into the half.
  • The Golden Wolves had plenty of opportunities in the third quarter. Alvernia fired in eight shots in the third frame - six of which were on goal - but Arcadia held off the Golden Wolves to keep it a 3-1 game going into the final 15 minutes.
  • Alvernia tacked on one more in the 54th minute as McClintock found Sofia Mollura off a corner attempt. Mollura knocked it in off the left post to make it a 4-1 game. Arcadia did not threaten the rest of the way as Alvernia secured the 4-1 win.
Inside the Box Score
  • Four different Golden Wolves scored for Alvernia, with Michael also adding on an assist. 
  • McClintock finished the night with two assists and a team-high seven shots.
  • Caloviras picked up the win in net with two saves.
