Alvernia Drops Tight Contest to Mustangs, 1-0

Owings Mills, Md. (October 4, 2025) - Stevenson University (5-2-4, 1-0-0) netted a first half goal and that was all it needed as they took down Alvernia University (3-5-3, 0-1-0), 1-0, Saturday afternoon in a MAC Commonwealth women's soccer clash at Stevenson.

How it Happened
  • Stevenson grabbed the lead in the 35th minute after Jalynn Mayfield-Rice ran onto a throughball, she then fended off the Alvernia defender and put the ball into the back of the net and past a diving Abby Rowley to make it a 1-0 game.
  • The Golden Wolves had a chance right before the half when Abby Stair ripped a shot on goal but Stevenson's Isabella Serano made the save as the Mustangs took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
  • The Mustangs controlled the offensive side of the game in the first 30 minutes of the second half and rattled off nine shots at the Alvernia net but they were unable to put the ball into the back of the net as the Mustangs still held onto the one goal lead.
  • Alvernia recorded two shots in the final 15 minutes of the contest including a shot on goal in the 88th minute by Katelynn Nedimyer but her shot was saved as the Mustangs secured the 1-0 victory over the Golden Wolves.
