Alvernia Takes 2-0 Win Over William Paterson on Senior Night

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 8, 2025) - Alvernia University (4-5-3) picked up a 2-0 win over William Paterson (6-5-1) in non-conference women's soccer action at Alvernia on Wednesday night.

The Golden Wolves celebrated senior night prior to the contest, recognizing Macy McDonough, Katelynn Nedimyer, Hailey Strain, Olivia Swartz, and Sarah Warner.

Alvernia got on the board in the 21st minute on a successful penalty kick goal by Tayler Flaherty. The Golden Wolves then made it a 2-0 game in the 67th minute on a goal by Macy McDonough. Alvernia picked up its fourth shutout of the year.

How it Happened
  • The Pioneers had the first look on goal of the night, but Emily Rossino made the save in net for Alvernia to prevent the early goal.
  • Alvernia got on the board in the 22nd minute. Kaleigh Willwerth fired off back-to-back shots for the Golden Wolves, and her second shot resulted in a handball in the box. Alvernia was awarded a penalty kick opportunity and Tayler Flaherty stepped up to the line to take the attempt for the Golden Wolves. Flaherty buried the attempt into the top right of the goal to give Alvernia the 1-0 lead.
  • The Pioneers answered with two more shots on goal in the next ten minutes, but Rossino made the two stops to keep it a 1-0 game. It remained 1-0 through the remainder of the half.
  • The Golden Wolves and Pioneers traded a shot on goal each in the opening 20 minutes, but neither team was able to convert until the 67th minute.
  • Late in the 67th minute, Flaherty found Macy McDonough with a through ball between a trio of Pioneers. McDonough picked up the pass, split her defenders, and buried a shot past the diving reach of the Pioneer keeper to give Alvernia the 2-0 lead with just over 23 minutes to play.
  • Alvernia did not allow another shot by the Pioneers the rest of the way as the Golden Wolves secured a 2-0 win in their final non-conference game of the season.
