Golden Wolves Go 1-1 at Home Tri-Match

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 4, 2025) - Alvernia Women's Volleyball (6-7) went 1-1 on Saturday at its home tri-match against Rutgers-Camden (5-9) and Immaculata University (3-11) in non-conference women's volleyball action. 

After leading the first match of the day, 2-0, Rutgers-Camden came storming back and completed the reverse sweep to take match one, 3-2. The Golden Wolves then bounced back with a 3-1 win over Immaculata to close out the day.

How it Happened - Match One
  • Alvernia took a 2-0 lead early in the first set with back-to-back kills from Allison Wolf and Hailey McDevitt.  Alvernia built its lead up to six, 9-3, later in the set on a solo block by Olivia Rohrbaugh. The Golden Wolves continued to lead by six, 19-13, but Camden closed in. An Alvernia attack error cut Alvernia's lead down to two, 21-19. A Rutgers kill made it 23-20 late. But, a service error on Camden brought the set to set point, 24-20, and Alvernia closed it out on a Rutgers attack error for the 25-20 set final.
  • Alvernia jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first set on a kill from Allie Evangelista and back-to-back errors by the Raptors. Rutgers then closed in on the Golden Wolves, making it a  9-7 set. Alvernia pulled back away behind a Rohrbaugh kill and back-to-back errors by Rutgers to make it a 13-7 set. But, Rutgers again closed in late and used a 6-2 run to make it a 23-20 set. A kill by Presley Carnes made it a 24-20 match, but the Raptors held off Alvernia with a kill and ace to close back within two, 24-22. Alvernia called a late timeout and finished the set off with a kill by Rohrbaugh to take the second set, 25-22.
  • After an early back and forth in the first half of the third set that saw the Raptors with a narrow 12-11 lead, Rutgers used a 10-3 run to pull away to a 22-14 lead. After a Rutgers service error, the Raptors then closed out the set with three straight kills to take the set, 25-15, and make it a 2-1 match.
  • The Raptors carried the third set momentum into the fourth. After leading by just one, 12-11, Rutgers used a 12-2 run to pull away from the Golden Wolves, 24-13. Alvernia held off set point twice, but Rutgers took the fourth set, 25-15, on a kill to even the match at 2-2.
  • The Golden Wolves and Raptors traded points throughout the early parts of the decisive fifth set. Alvernia tied the set at 7-7 on a Rohrbaugh kill and took the 8-7 lead on an attack error by the Raptors as the teams switched sides. After three more ties, Rutgers retook the lead, 11-10, on a block and took a two-point lead, 12-10, on an ace. Alvernia called a timeout and got a point back on a McDevitt kill, but the Raptors took it to match point, 14-11, on back-to-back kills. Rutgers then completed the reverse sweep of the Golden Wolves on its third straight kill to seal the set, 15-10, and the match, 3-2.

Inside the Box Score - Match One
  • Olivia Rohrbaugh led Alvernia with 14 kills on 40 attacks, and Alison Wolf finished with 12 kills on 42 attacks.
  • Marli Emrich finished with 37 assists and 12 digs, and Melina Stinsky finished the match with 25 digs.

How it Happened - Match two
  • The first set was back-and-forth from the jump, with neither team able to gain ground. Immaculata had its largest lead of the set, 18-15, but Alvernia called a timeout and stormed back. The Golden Wolves tied the set at 18-18 on a Marli Emrich ace, and then took the 19-18 lead on a kill by Olivia Rohrbaugh. After a tie at 21-21, the Golden Wolves took the 23-21 lead on back-to-back kills by Allison Wolf and Allie Evangelista. Alvernia then closed out the set, 25-23, on back-to-back Immaculata service errors to take the 1-0 match lead.
  • The Mighty Macs jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the second set and cruised to a 25-16 victory to even the match at 1-1. The Golden Wolves got to within three twice during the set, but the Golden Wolves were never able to tie the set as the Mighty Macs led the set wire-to-wire.
  • After an early back-and-forth to open the third set, Alvernia used a 7-0 run off the serve of Caroline Buggy to take a 15-8 lead. Alvernia gave back a point before grabbing two more points off of Emirch and Evangelista kills to take a 17-9 lead. But, the Mighty Macs stormed back with a 10-1 run to get within one, 21-20. Alvernia took a three point lead, 23-20, on back-to-back attack errors by Immaculata. The Golden Wolves got to set point, 24-21, on a Rohrbaugh kill. The Mighty Macs held off one set point before a Hailey McDevitt kill sealed the set, 25-22, and gave Alvernia the 2-1 match lead. 
  • The Golden Wolves took an early 5-1 lead in the fourth set behind four attack errors by Immacualta and a kill by Evangelista. Back-to-back service aces by Evangelista then gave Alvernia the 9-4 lead later in the set. The Mighty Macs called a timeout and got three points back to close with two, 9-7. Alvernia pushed its lead back up to 14-8 on a 5-1 run. The Golden Wolves continued to roll the rest of the way. Alvernia pushed its lead to ten, 22-12, on a Buggy kill. An Evangelista kill and Immaculata attack error pushed the set to match point, 24-14. The Golden Wolves then closed out the set on another attack error to take the set, 25-14, and the match, 3-1.
