Washington’s Late Equalizer Powers Golden Wolves to 1-1 Draw Against #18 Profs

Glassboro, N.J. (October 8, 2025) - Joseph Washington netted an 89th minute leveler as Alvernia University (2-7-2) salvaged a 1-1 draw against #18 Rowan University (8-2-2) Wednesday night in a non-conference men's soccer clash at Rowan University.

After a scoreless first half the Profs netted the opening goal in the 53rd minute but the Golden Wolves held strong and netted the game tying goal in the 89th minute after Austin Chambers assisted Joseph Washington to tie the game at one.

How it Happened
  • A scoreless first half was highlighted by Rowan rattling off 20 shots at the Alvernia net in the first 45 minutes of action with eight going on goal but Alvernia's Evan Solley saved all eight that came on goal to keep the game tied at zero heading into the first half.
  • The Golden Wolves recorded two back to back shots in the 26th minute after Connor Kraycik had a shot blocked and Aidan Courtney fired a shot on goal but it was saved by Rowan's Travis Holiday.
  • The Profs broke the tie in the 53rd minute of the game after Jake Homowitz found the foot of Luke McNamee, McNamee then ripped a shot from outside the box back across goal and into the back of the net to give the Profs a 1-0 lead.
  • Rowan would continue to fire shots at the Alvernia goal and tallied 14 shots in the next 33 minutes but the Golden Wolves defense held strong and Solley recorded six saves to keep the Rowan lead at one.
  • The Golden Wolves then found a late equalizer in the final two minutes of the game. After the Golden Wolves were awarded a free kick in the offensive third, Kraycik stood over the ball and whipped a ball into the Rowan box, Kraycik found the head of Austin Chambers who beat the Rowan keeper and headed the back back across goal to Joseph Washington, Washington then buried the ball into the back of the net and sent the Alvernia bench into a frenzy and leveled the score at 1-1 and salvage a draw against the #18 ranked Profs.
