Alvernia Falls to SUNY Potsdam, 2-1

Potsdam, NY (Nov. 1, 2025) - SUNY Potsdam (1-1-0) used a 44th minute goal to secure a 2-1 win over Alvernia University (1-1-0) on Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's ice hockey action at SUNY Potsdam.

Alvernia led 1-0 after an early goal to open the second period. The Bears evened the game at 1-1 later in the second period and then scored the eventual game-winner with just over 15 minutes to play in the third.

How it Happened
  • After a scoreless first period, Emma Hart got Alvernia on the board with an unassisted goal 1:46 into the second period.
  • After peppering Alvernia for the latter half of the second period, the Bears broke through and evened the game at 1-1 with a goal from Alessia Marandola with just about three and a half minutes to play in the second frame. 
  • Potsdam broke the 1-1 tie in the fifth minute of the third period with a goal Jalynn Castro.
  • Alvernia was awarded a power-play opportunity a few minutes later, and fired in five shots during the two minutes of extra-player opportunity. But, two attempts were blocked and another two were saved to keep the Bears in front.
  • Alvernia had just one more shot on goal the rest of the way, and the opportunity was saved as Potsdam secured the series split with today's 2-1 win.
Inside the Box Score
  • Emma Hart scored her second goal of the young season with Alvernia's lone goal of the day. She also had a team-high five blocks and led Alvernia on the faceoff with six wins.
  • Juju Rodgers finished with 22 saves in goal.
