Golden Wolves Open Conference Play with 3-1 Win Over Mustangs

Stevenson, MD (Nov. 7, 2025) - Alvernia Women's Ice Hockey (2-1-0, 1-0-0) used two first period goals to propel itself to a 3-1 win over Stevenson University (1-2-0, 0-1-0) in the MAC Women's Ice Hockey opener on Friday at Stevenson.

The Golden Wolves got on the board with a pair of goals by Noelle De Magistris in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. After a scoreless second frame, the Mustangs got within one with an early third period goal. Alvernia then got an insurance goal with 12 minutes to play and used a six save period from Stephanie Skorupa to take the 3-1 win.

How it Happened
  • After an early back-and-forth, Alvernia scored on a putback goal by De Magistris six minutes into the contest. De Magistris finished off the initial shot of Sofia King to give Alvernia the 1-0 lead.
  • The Golden Wolves then doubled up on their lead with a power-play goal by De Magistris with five and a half minutes to play in the first period. Alvernia had one more power play the remainder of the period, but did not convert as the game moved into the second period with Alvernia leading 2-0.
  • Alvernia pressured throughout the second period. The Golden Wolves had three power-play opportunities and put in 13 shots on goal, but Alvernia maintained its two goal lead going into the final 20 minutes.
  • The Mustangs killed off the final 10 seconds of a penalty to open the period and started firing at the Golden Wolves. Stevenson put in four shots in four minutes, and converted on its fifth shot to get within one, 2-1, 3:44 into the period.
  • Alvernia returned the pressure coming out of the Stevenson goal, and the Golden Wolves got back to their two goal lead, 3-1, on a goal from Erin Schutt off the assist of Kathryn Palmer.
  • Skorupa made five saves the rest of the way and Alvernia did not allow a shot while the Mustangs went empty net in the final minute as the Golden Wolves secured the 3-1 win.
