Golden Wolves Grab Team Title at Shenandoah Invitational

Winchester, Va. (November 16, 2025) - Ten Golden Wolves recorded top three finishes Sunday as Alvernia University's men's wrestling team ran away with the team title at the Shenandoah Invitational at the James. R Wilkins Jr. Athletics & Event Center in Winchester, Va. 

Four Golden Wolves recorded first place finishes with Chance Babb, Hayden McLellan, Jason Chiodi and Luke Thomas all grabbing the title in their respective weight classes. Six more Golden Wolves tallied second place finishes and a total of 15 of the 23 Alvernia wrestlers recorded top six finishes. 

Alvernia recorded a staggering 291.5 team points to record the team title at the invitational. 

How it Happened 
  • Chance Babb recorded the 157 pound title and recorded a 16-1 tech fall over Hayden Laney in the first round and a 17-2 tech fall against Jack Landauer. Babb then received two medical forfeits to grab first place honors. 
  • Hayden McLellan grabbed the 184 pound title and tallied three tech falls and a pin en route to the title. McLellan recorded a fall in 2:26 in the first round and then recorded back to back 20 plus point tech falls in his next two matches. McLellan recorded a 25-9 tech fall in the quarterfinals and then a 22-5 tech fall in the semifinal to advance to the 184 pound title bout. McLellan then posted yet another 20 point tech fall with a 21-6 victory over Cole Shupp from Penn College to secure the title. 
  • Jason Chiodi also recorded a first place finish in the 197 pound bracket and started his day with a fall over Chase Stuchal in 3:29 before besting Washington and Lee's Maxx Miller by decision, 6-2 to advance to the final. Chiodi then bested Caiden Hooks from Otterbein by decision, 10-3 to secure first place honors. 
  • Luke Thomas rounded out the Golden Wolves that tallied first place finishes and did so in the 174 pound weight class. Thomas started his day with a pin in under a minute over Lincoln Archibald before tallying a 20-5 tech fall over Dallas Downs. Thomas then posted a 12-0 major decision over Zach Silnutzer in the quarterfinals and followed that with a fall in 6:50 over Tyler-Nicholas Ritz to advance to the title. Thomas received a medical forfeit in the final to secure first place honors. 
  • Owen Reber posted a second place finish in the 285 pound bracket and tallied a fall in 2:10 in his opening match of the day before recording a 6-1 decision in his second match. Reber advanced to the final with a 4-2 decision over Jonah McCoy from St. Vincent but then fell to John's Hopkin's Jake Pomykata by fall in the final to take second. 
  • Quinn Tobin also took second in the 149 pound weight class and started his day with a 19-0 tech fall over Noah Williams from Randolph and then a fall over Washington & Lee's Robert Pavlek in 2:21. Tobin then recorded a 15-0 tech fall in the quarterfinals before posting a fall in 5:26 over Shenandoah's Griffin Stewart to advance to the final. Tobin then dropped the 149 pound title bout to Anthony Orlandini by decision, 12-6 to take second. 
  • Rocco Monteferrante took second in the 125 pound bracket and started his day with a 14-7 decision over Nicholas Anderson from Garrett College and then posted a 16-1 tech fall over Damien Costello to advance to the semifinals. Monteferrante then posted a 14-1 major decision in the semis but dropped the final by fall to take second. 
  • Jake Ebaugh tallied a second place finish in the 165 pound bracket and recorded back to back pins in his first two matches of the day. Ebaugh then posted another pin in the semifinals against James Battulga from Shenandoah in 2:11 but then fell in the final to Penn College's Carter Davis by major decision, 12-0 to take second. 
  • Steven Harris also recorded a second place finish in the 133 pound bracket and recorded a 15-0 tech fall in his first match before posting a 13-0 major decision in his second bout. Harris then pinned Oluwatunmise Faniyi in 1:33 to advance to the title but then fell to Logan Connolly by decision, 8-3, to take second place. 
  • William Knapp rounded out the top three finishers for the Golden Wolves with a second place finish in the 174 pound bracket. Knapp recorded an 8-4 decision over Gavin Gomes from Penn College and then tallied a 5-3 decision over Lucas Sumners from the Apprentice School to advance to the semi-finals. Knapp then took down Arthur Gordon from Hopkins by decision, 14-12 before having to medical forfeit in the final to finish in second place. 
  • Ryad Belguet recorded a fourth place finish in the 184 pound bracket, Nolan Brown took fourth at 141 pounds and Tristan Cooper took fourth in the 285 pound bracket. Myles Brown recorded a fifth place finish at 197 and Jaeckez Mendez rounded out the Golden Wolves place finishers with a sixth place finish at 149 pounds.

  • The Golden Wolves are back in action Saturday when they travel to Penn College for the Penn College duals with Penn State Altoona, Averett and Davis and Elkins College.
