Golden Wolves Go 2-0 at Penn College Duals

Williamsport, Pa. (November 22, 2025) - Alvernia University recorded dual victories over Averett University and Penn College of Technology Saturday afternoon in men's wrestling action at Penn College.

The Golden Wolves took down Averett in a tight battle, 22-19, thanks to a 9-3 decision by Owen Reber in the 285 pound bout to secure the decisive three points. Alvernia then turned around and took care of business against host Penn College and defeated the Wildcats 31-13 to secure the sweep.

Alvernia vs. Averett - 22-19 (Alvernia)
The Cougars jumped out to a 7-0 win with a major decision and a decision at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively. Alvernia got on the board with a 10-1 major decision by Nolan Brown at 141 pounds, and took the 9-7 lead with an 18-2 technical fall win by Quinn Tobin at 149 pounds. Alvernia then pushed its lead to 13-7 with a 23-11 major decision win by Chance Babb at 157 pounds. The Cougars then tied it back up at 13-13 on a win via a fall at 165 pounds.

Luke Thomas then fell in double overtime, 2-1, at 174 pounds, giving the Cougars a 16-13 advantage with three bouts to go. Hayden McLellan then put Alvernia back in front, 19-16, with a pin over Averett's Bryson Caudle in 2:42 at 184 pounds.

Averett tied the match again, 19-19, with a 4-2 decision at 197 pounds over Alvernia's Jason Choidi, bringing the match to the decisive heavyweight bout. Owen Reber took a 6-1 lead with two takedowns late in the first period of the heavyweight bout. He then took a 9-3 lead late to secure the 9-3 decision and the go-ahead three points for Alvernia as the Golden Wolves defeated the Cougars, 22-19.

Alvernia vs. Penn College of Technology - 31-13 (Alvernia)
The Golden Wolves jumped out to an early 6-0 lead with a late fall by Ethan Staples over Penn Tech's Justin Adams. The Wildcats evened the match up at 6-6 with wins via decision at 133 pounds and 141 pounds. They then took a 10-6 lead with a major decision win at 149 pounds. Alvernia got back within one, 10-9, with a 9-5 decision by Sebastiano Spina at 157 pounds.

The Wildcats pushed their lead back up to four, 13-9, with a 6-5 decision at 165 pounds as #13 Carter Davis defeated Chance Babb. But, Alvernia rolled from there. The Golden Wolves took a 15-13 lead with a fall by Luke Thomas over Lincoln Archbald at 174 pounds in 4:55 before Hayden McLellan extended the Alvernia lead to seven,20-13, after a 22-7 tech fall over Cole Shupp. The Golden Wolves finished off the Wildcats in the final two bouts of the day thanks to a Jason Chiodi 16-1 tech fall over Tyler Prince and an Owen Reber pin of Nicholai Brotzman to secure the 21-13 victory for Alvernia.
