Saratoga Springs, NY (Nov. 30, 2025) - After Alvernia University (5-5) tied the game up at 2-2 early in the third period, #5 University of New England (7-1) scored four unanswered goals to down Alvernia, 6-2, on Sunday afternoon in the consolation game of the Skidmore College Thanksgiving Invitational in Saratoga Spring, New York.
Trailing 2-0 through the first 25 minutes of action, Alvernia got within one on a late second period goal. The Golden Wolves then tied the game at 2-2 with a goal just under 90 seconds into the third. The tie lasted four and a half minutes before the Nor'easters took the lead with 14 minutes to play. UNE then added three more the rest of the way to keep the game out of reach for the Golden Wolves as the Nor'easters took third place at the Skidmore College Thanksgiving Invitational.
How it Happened
UNE got on the board midway through the first period, scoring just under a minute into its first power-play opportunity of the game. Alvernia was outshot 12-6 on goal in the first period as the Nor'easters took a 1-0 lead into the second.
UNE needed just five minutes of second period play to double up on its lead, taking a 2-0 advantage 42 seconds into its second power-play of the game.
Alvernia got back within one, 2-1, with four and a half minutes to play in the third period as Matthew Imbriano connected with Gabriel Flammia. But, Alvernia was held without a shot the rest of the period. Jacob Stern made two saves late and Alvernia defenders added three blocks to keep it a 2-1 game going into the third.
Just 1:25 into the third period, Alvernia evened the game at 2-2 with a goal by Anthony Piccininno scored off the assists of Keegan Driscoll and Peter Lopes.
UNE responded with five shots at Alvernia through two minutes of play, and it was their sixth shot that broke through as the Nor'easters took a 3-2 lead with 14 minutes remaining. UNE then kept it rolling from there, taking a 4-2 lead at the midpoint of the period, and making it a 5-0 game with seven minutes to play on their third power-play goal of the afternoon. UNE added one final goal with five minutes to play to take a 6-2 lead, and held Alvernia to just one shot on goal the rest of the way.

Anthony Piccininno and Gabriel Flammia led Alvernia with a goal each. Peter Lopes, Matthew Imbriano, and Keegan Driscoll each added an assist.
Will White had a team-high five blocks, and Jacob Stern finished with 40 saves in net. White was also selected to the All-Tournament Team.
UNE outshot Alvernia 46-17 and went three for four on the power-play.

Alvernia returns home to host Neumann University on Friday and Saturday in a MAC matchup. It will be Alvernia's final series before a month-long break for the holidays.
