Golden Wolves Take Down Alfred State and NJCU at King’s Duals

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (December 13, 2025) - Alvernia University recorded dual victories over Alfred State and New Jersey City University Saturday afternoon at the King's Duals at King's College. 

The Golden Wolves defeated NJCU first by a score of 33-8 and then posted a 36-12 dual victory over Alfred State to secure the Saturday sweep. 

Dual 1 - NJCU: 8, ALV: 33

How it Happened 
  • The Golden Wolves and the Gothic Knights traded decisions back and forth in the first two bouts of the day with Julian Zaragoza posting a 4-3 victory over Dominic Terracciano but NJCU's Lucas Torre responded with a 9-2 decision over Steven Harris to tie the dual at three. 
  • NJCU's Dean Costantino followed with a tech fall over Nolan Brown at 141 pounds to give NJCU the 8-3 advantage. 
  • That would be the last match that the Gothic Knights would take as the Golden Wolves ripped off seven straight victories en route to the victory. Aiden Swann started things off at 149 pounds with a 12-8 decision and Brandon Flores-Salazar followed with a 12-0 major decision to give the Golden Wolves the 10-8 lead. 
  • The Golden Wolves then extended their lead to 20-8 after back to back technical falls from Ian Vitalo and Luke Thomas at 165 and 174 pounds. Vitalo posted a 21-6 tech fall over Zahier Chiles at 165 pounds and Thomas tech falled Diego Viera by a score of 17-2 at 174 pounds. 
  • Hayden McLellan tallied a pin over Ryan McGuire at 184 pounds in 1:40 to push the Alvernia advantage to 26-8. 
  • Jason Chiodi and Owen Reber then closed out the dual victory for the Golden Wolves after Chiodi recorded a 4-0 decision over Simeon Hunte at 197 pounds and Reber tallied a 11-2 major decision at 285 pounds over Walter Thomas to secure the 33-8 victory over the Gothic Knights. 

Dual 2 - Alfred State: 12, ALV: 36

How it Happened 
  • Alvernia's Rocco Monteferrante started things off in the second dual of the day with a fall over Jordan Busby in 2:00 to give the Golden Wolves an early 6-0 lead. 
  • Zaragoza then fell to Mason Drew in the 133 pound match by fall in 2:34 to tie the dual at six a piece. 
  • Swann got the Golden Wolves back in the lead at 141 pounds with a 15-0 tech fall over Richard Morales to make it 11-6 Alvernia. 
  • Brown then fell to Kyle Meyer in the 149 pound bout in a tight decision, 13-12, but the Golden Wolves stayed in the lead, 11-9. 
  • Flores-Salazar got the Golden Wolves back on track with a 16-5 major decision at 157 pounds and Vitalo followed with a pin in just 36 seconds to make it a 21-9 Alvernia lead heading into the back half of the dual. 
  • Thomas then recorded a second pin in a row for Alvernia at 174 pounds with a pin in 1:23 over George Racz to push the Alvernia advantage to 27-9. 
  • Alfred State's Sean Malenfant took down McLellan at 184 pounds by decision, 8-7, after a riding point was awarded at the end of the match to make it 27-12 Alvernia. 
  • Just like the first dual, Alvernia's Chiodi and Reber closed out the dual with back to back victories to secure the victory for Alvernia. Chiodi posted a 9-5 decision over Aaron Johnson at 197 pounds and Reber pinned Colton Hai in 1:14 to secure the 36-12 victory over Alfred State. 

Inside the Results
  • Luke Thomas and Ian Vitalo both went 2-0 on the day and both recorded a tech fall victory and a pin to lead the Golden Wolves. 
  • Owen Reber posted a pin and a major decision to help lead Alvernia, Brandon Flores-Salazar recorded back to back major decisions and Jason Chiodi recorded two victories by decision on the day.
