Jones, Dearry Lead Golden Wolves Past Knights, 72-61

Reading, Pa. (Dec. 6, 2025) - Alvernia University (5-3) had three players reach double-digits to power the Golden Wolves to a 72-61 win over Arcadia University (5-3) on Saturday afternoon in MAC Crossover action at Alvernia.

Arcadia led 15-6 through the first eight minutes of action, but the Golden Wolves pushed back and used a 12-3 run to even the game up at 18-18. The Golden Wolves took a 29-26 lead into the half and opened the second half on a 10-2 run to push its lead to double-digits. Alvernia held the Knights off the rest of the way to pick up its first win over Arcadia since February of 2018.

How it Happened
  • The Knights took a 4-1 lead through the first four minutes after a slow-start by the Golden Wolves. A quick layup from Janye Stanley and a Rasheem Dearry 3-pointer gave Alvernia the 6-4 lead through five minutes until Alvernia's scoring went cold for seven minutes as Arcadia built its lead up nine, 15-6, through 12 minutes of action.
  • Alvernia got back on track with a pull-up jumper by Mason Jones that sparked a 12-3 run over the next four minutes. A driving layup by Robert Cottrell capped the run and tied the game at 18-18 with four minutes to play in the half.
  • After Arcadia retook the lead, Alvernia tied the game again at 22-22 and 24-24. A 3-pointer by Jones gave Alvernia the 27-24 lead with 1:27 to play in the half, and a dunk by Naji Hamilton off the bench gave Alvernia the 29-26 lead going into the break. Mason Jones led Alvernia with 14 of Alvernia's 29 first half points.
  • Alvernia opened the second half on a 10-2 run through the first three minutes to take a 39-28 lead over the Knights. Alvernia went 4-for-6 during the brief run, led by four points by Rearry. Arcadia cut back within single digits with a 3-pointer coming out of a timeout before Alvernia pushed it back to double-digits, 41-31, on a pair of made free throws by Stanley.
  • The Knights cut Alvernia's lead back down to five, 43-38, over the next four and a half minutes. Arcadia hung around the five point deficit until a Cottrell 3-pointer and Dearry layup pushed Alvernia's lead back to ten, 50-40, through the midpoint of the second half.
  • Alvernia took its largest lead of the afternoon, 60-47, on a layup by Jones with 5:36 to play. Alvernia and Arcadia then went point for point the rest of the way as Alvernia did not allow the Knights to get closer than eight through the final minutes of the game. The Golden Wolves held the Knights without a field goal in the final minute as Saleem Bell-Hudson and Dearry each made a pair of free throws to secure the 72-61 win.
