Alvernia Falls to DeSales in Opener, 14-3

Center Valley, Pa. (Feb. 19, 2025) - Alvernia University (0-1) dropped its season-opener to DeSales University (1-0), 14-3, on cold Wednesday evening in non-conference women's lacrosse action at DeSales University.

The Bulldogs led 2-0 through the first quarter and 5-0 at the half. Alvernia pressured in the opening minutes of the second half, but DeSales answered and cruised the rest of the way to the 14-3 win.

How it Happened
  • After a scoreless opening eight minutes, DeSales scored two goals in ten seconds to take the 2-0 lead with 6:58 to play in the first quarter. But, Alvernia held the Bulldogs scoreless through the rest of the first to make it a 2-0 game going into the second.
  • DeSales tacked on three more goals across the second quarter to make it a 5-0 game at the half.
  • Alvernia got on the board 50 seconds into the second half on a shot from Sherrin Smith that went between the goalie and left post to make it a 5-1 game in favor of the Bulldogs. Just 40 seconds later, Alvernia added on another goal - this time from Lindsay Kerchner on a dodging shot - to make it 5-2 with 13:29 to play in the quarter. But, DeSales put it back to a four goal game, 6-2, just over a minute later.
  • DeSales did not allow another Alvernia goal for nearly the rest of the way. After taking the 6-2 lead, DeSales added four more in the third to take a 10-2 lead into the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs then added four more in the opening nine minutes of the fourth quarter to take a 14-2 lead.
