Alvernia Falls to Stevenson in Regular Season Finale, 62-55

Owings Mills, MD. (Feb. 22, 2025) - Alvernia University (13-11, 7-6) dropped its regular season finale, 62-55, to Stevenson University (3-10, 9-16) in MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action at Stevenson.

The Golden Wolves needed a win and an Albright loss on Saturday in order to secure the final spot in the 2025 MAC Commonwealth postseason. The Lions dropped their game to Widener, but Alvernia came up just short to the Mustangs. Albright picked up the #4 and final spot in the MAC Postseason. Alvernia will await a bid to the ECAC Tournament.

How it Happened
  • The Mustangs got on the board with a putback jumper on their opening possession. But, Alvernia tied the game at 2-2 on a Jennah DeGout basket off a Jordyn Ingelido steal. Alvernia then took a 4-2 lead after DeGout made a pair of free throws with 6:40 to play in the opening quarter.
  • The Golden Wolves continued to lead, 7-4, on a made 3-pointer from Ingelido with six minutes to play in the quarter. But, Stevenson bounced back and retook the lead on a quick 4-0 run over the next two and a half minutes. Alvernia grabbed the lead back, 9-8, on a DeGout layup, and the two sides traded points to close out the quarter. Stevenson held the slight edge, 13-12, following a pair of untimed free throws to close out the quarter.
  • Stevenson opened the second quarter with a 3-point play and a jumper to take an 18-12 lead through the first minute of the second quarter. Alvernia got on the board in the second quarter with a layup from Kylie Bradford to make it an 18-14 game in favor of the Mustangs with 8:23 to play in the second.
  • The Golden Wolves tied the game at 18-18 a minute later on a DeGout layup, and retook the lead, 19-18, on an ensuing free throw. Alvernia's lead did not last too as the Mustangs retook it, 20-19, on a pair of made free throws as the quarter hit its midpoint.
  • Stevenson pushed its lead to six points, 27-21, on a 3-pointer with two minutes to play in the half. The Mustangs went on to take a five point lead, 28-23, into the half.
  • The Mustangs came out of the break and pushed its lead to seven, 30-23, on an opening possession layup. But, Alvernia got back within five, 30-25, on an Olivia Burke jumper off her own rebound. The Golden Wolves then closed within three, 30-27, on a pair of made free throws from Bradford with 8:22 to play in the quarter.
  • Alvernia closed within two, 32-30, on a Paige O'Brien 3-pointer with seven minutes to play in the quarter. But, Stevenson pushed it back to a four point lead, 34-30, on its next possession.
  • The Golden Wolves threatened once again and got within one, 40-39, on a Nicole Etchison fastbreak layup with 3:28 to play. But, Stevenson pulled away to close out the quarter and used a 10-2 run over the final three minutes to take a 50-41 lead into the final frame.
