Grantham, Pa (February 5, 2025) - Alvernia University (13-7, 5-4) outscored Messiah University (3-17, 2-7) by 18 in the second half en route to a 22 point, 84-62 victory over the Falcons in a MAC Commonwealth men's basketball clash Wednesday evening on Messiah's Jordan Court.

The Golden Wolves ended the first half on a 13-6 scoring run as they held a four point, 31-27 lead over the Falcons after the first 20 minutes of basketball. The Golden Wolves then outscored the Falcons 53-35 in the second half to secure the 22 point, 84-62 victory.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves and the Falcons traded baskets back and forth for the first six minutes of the game before Alvernia grabbed a 13-8 lead after a Janye Stanley jumper and a Robert Mullan steal and layup.
  • Messiah then flipped the script and knocked down a three that sparked a 13-5 scoring run that swung the lead in favor of the Falcons, 21-18 with under ten to play in the half.
  • A Robert Cottrell three pointer sparked a 13-6 Alvernia run over the final nine minutes of the first half that saw the Golden Wolves grab the lead back, 31-27 heading into the halftime break. Mullan added four during the stretch, Jakob Kelly tallied four as well and Rasheem Dearry added two.
  • The Golden Wolves shot 43% from the floor in the first half and 37% from beyond the arc while also outrebounding Messiah 23-17 overall. Mullan led the way for Alvernia with eight points, and two assists and Stanley also tallied eight points. Kelly added six with five rebounds.
  • Alvernia continued to hold its lead in the first five minutes of the second half and scored ten of the first 18 points of the half to maintain a 41-35 lead. Mullan led with five during the stretch and Cottrell added a three ball.
  • The Golden Wolves then pushed the lead to eight, 49-41 with just over 12 minutes to go in the second half after a Cottrell three from deep forced a Messiah timeout down eight.
  • Alvernia extended the lead to ten with ten minutes to go in the half after back to back driving layups from Mullan and Jacob Stoudt made it a 53-43 ballgame.
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed their biggest lead of the night with just under seven minutes to go in the second half after a corner three from Cottrell and seven points from Kelly as the Golden Wolves held a 14 point, 63-49 lead.
  • Alvernia would end the second half on a 19-13 scoring run that pushed the lead to above 20 after a William Fisher three ball from the top of the key made it a 20 point, 80-60 lead for Alvernia. Raheem Williams would then knock down two free throws as the Golden Wolves secured the 22 point, 84-62 victory over the Falcons.
