Babb, Pellot-Vazquez Lead Golden Wolves at Messiah Open

Grantham, Pa (February 8, 2025) - Mauro Pellot-Vazquez and Chance Babb both took first in their respective weight classes to lead Alvernia University Saturday at the Messiah Open.

Babb took home first place honors in the 149 pound weight class and Pellot-Vazquez recorded a first place finish in the 285 pound bracket. Owen Reber took fifth in the 285 pound bracket and William Knapp took fifth in the 174 pound weight class.

How it Happened

Chance Babb went 4-0 on the day and secured the 149 pound title. Babb received a bye in the first round and then recorded a tech fall and a major decision to punch his ticket to the semifinal match. Babb then took down Josh Hillart by decision, 11-6 to head to the 149 pound title bout. Babb recorded a 13-7 decision over Brock Weiss to secure first place in the 149 pound bracket.
Mauro Pellot-Vazquez also recorded a first place finish in the 285 pound bracket and recorded a 5-0 record on the day. Pellot-Vazquez started his day with a major decision and a tech fall in rounds one and two to head to the quarterfinal match. Pellot-Vazquez then recorded a fall in the quarterfinal and a 9-3 decision in the semifinal to punch his ticket to the 285 pound final. In the final, Pellot-Vazquez recorded a medical forfeit to grab first place honors.
William Knapp finished 5th in the 174 pound bracket and recorded a 3-2 record on the day. Knapp started his day with a fall and a 17-2 tech fall in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. Knapp then fell in the semifinal match and the consi-semis to head to the fifth place match. Knapp recorded a 13-7 decision over Tyler Shea in the 5th place bout to secure 5th place.
Owen Reber also recorded a fifth place finish in the 285 pound bracket and went 5-2 on the day. Reber dropped his round two match by sudden victory to head to the consolation bracket. Reber then ripped off four straight victories with two decisions and a major decision to head to the consi-semis. Reber then lost in the consi-semis and dropped to the fifth place match but bounced back with a victory by fall in the 5th place match to secure 5th place.
