Big Run Lifts Cougars Past Golden Wolves, 13-6

Dallas, Pa. (Mar. 12, 2025) - Misericordia University (2-3) used a 9-0 run to take a 13-6 win over Alvernia University (0-5) on Wednesday night in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Misericordia.

The Golden Wolves tied the game at 3-3 in the early seconds of the second quarter. But, Misericordia broke the tie two minutes later, and that goal ignited a 9-0 run for the Cougars that ran into the fourth quarter and gave Misericordia the 12-3 lead. Alvernia scored a trio of goals late, but the Misericordia lead was too much for Alvernia to overcome as the Cougars took the 13-6 win.

How it Happened
  • Misericordia led 2-0 through the first nine minutes of action, but Alvernia got on the board on a Sherrin Smith goal off a free position attempt with 5:50 to play in the opening quarter. Misericordia retook the two-goal lead, 3-1, on a goal with three minutes to play. But, Alvernia got back within one on a goal by Hailey Miller with 2:11 to play in the quarter.
  • Alvernia then tied the game at 3-3 on Mia Martin's first career goal, which came off a quarter-opening draw control win by Smith. But, the tie did not last long as Misericordia scored a go-ahead goal on a free position attempt. That goal sparked a 9-0 run for the Cougars that ran through the conclusion of the first half and well into the fourth quarter, giving Misericordia the 12-3 lead as the game entered the final 15 minutes.
  • Alvernia broke its scoreless drought on goal by Smith with nine minutes to play. Alvernia then scored two more quick goals with about four minutes to play as both Makenna Thomas and Miller netted goals for the Golden Wolves. But, Misericordia's lead would be too much for Alvernia to surpass, and the Cougars scored one more goal with a minute to play to take the 13-6 win.
