Golden Wolves Grab 13-9 Win Over Immaculata

Immaculata, P. (March 15, 2025) - Alvernia Women's Lacrosse (1-5) picked up its first win of the season on Saturday with a 13-9 win over Immaculata University (1-6) in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Immaculata.

After a trading of early goals, Alvernia used a 5-0 run to grab some separation from the Mighty Macs. Alvernia held off Immaculata the rest of the way for the 13-9 win.

How it Happened
  • The Mighty Macs took the early 1-0 lead off a goal following the opening draw of the game. But, Alvernia tied it at 1-1 less than a minute later on a goal by Sherrin Smith. The trading of goals continued through the opening minutes as Immaculata retook the lead on a free-position goal, and Alvernia tied it again at 2-2 on a goal by Gracie Brower 3:20 into the game.
  • After nearly eight minutes without a goal, Alvernia took its first lead of the game, 3-2, on a free position goal by Makenna Thomas. Thomas' goal ignited a quick 3-0 burst by Alvernia to close out the quarter. Smith scored on a free-position goal of her own, and Thomas scored her second of the game to give Alvernia the 5-2 lead going into the second.
  • The Golden Wolves made it four straight goals with a goal from Lindsay Kerchner three minutes into the second quarter to give Alvernia the 6-2 lead. Alvernia and Immaculata then traded goals to close out the half. Alvernia got one more goal in the quarter on a free position goal by Thomas, but the Golden Wolves gave up two goals to the Mighty Macs as Alvernia took the 7-4 lead into the half.
  • After nine minutes of scoreless action to open the third quarter, Alvernia took an 8-4 lead on Kerschner's second of the afternoon with nine minutes to play in the third. But, Immaculata got right back within three, 8-5, on a goal of its own less than a minute later.
  • Hannah Tyler gave Alvernia back the four goal lead, 9-5, after grabbing her own rebound and firing it back on goal with 7:16 to play in the third. But, Immaculate got right back within three, 9-6, less than a minute later.
  • Smith scored her second free position goal of the afternoon with five minutes to play in the third quarter to give Alvernia the 10-6 lead. The Golden Wolves then built their lead up to five, 11-6, on Kerschner's third goal of the day coming out of an Alvernia timeout. Kerchner added one more for Alvernia to give the Golden Wolves a 12-6 lead going into the final frame.
  • The Golden Wolves and Mighty Macs opened the fourth quarter trading goals, with Alvernia's goal coming off the stick of Hannah Tyler. Alvernia went scoreless to close out the game, but the Golden Wolves held off two late goals for the Mighty Macs as Alvernia came away with the 13-9 win.
