Alvernia Falls to Ursinus, 18-5

Reading, Pa (March 19, 2025) - Alvernia University (1-6) dropped a non-conference women's lacrosse matchup to Ursinus College (4-4) 18-5, Wednesday afternoon at Alvernia. 

The Bears took a 11-3 lead after the first two quarters and tacked on seven more in the second half to secure the victory. 

How it Happened
  • Ursinus took an early 1-0 lead on a goal off the opening draw. The Bears then won the ensuing draw, ran down the shot clock, and shot and scored to take the 2-0 lead less than two minutes into the action. The Bears again got the next draw and took a 3-0 lead 20 seconds later. 
  • The Bears made a stop on Alvernia's first possession and took a 4-0 lead four minutes into the game.
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board, 4-1, with 4:30 to play in the first quarter after Lindsay Kerchner converted a free-position attempt for Alvernia. But, Ursinus answered back and took a 5-1 lead on a man-up goal with three minutes to play in the opening quarter. Ursinus then took a 6-1 lead less than a minute later. The Bears took the 6-1 lead into the second quarter.
  • After a back-and-forth opening four minutes, the Bears took the 7-1 lead on a goal in transition to open the second quarter scoring. Ursinus then took an 8-1 lead two minutes later on a free-position goal.
  • The Golden Wolves put an end to the four-goal Ursinus run with a goal from Hannah Tyler off the assist of Gracie Brower with 7:15 to play in the half. The Golden Wolves then got back within five on an unassisted goal from Sherrin Smith a minute later.
  • Ursinus called a timeout and scored two quick goals to push its lead back up to seven, 10-3, with 5:15 to play in the half. The Bears added one more goal in the final minute of the half to take an 11-3 lead into the break.
  • The Bears scored two goals in the opening two minutes of the third quarter to get to the ten-goal differential and take a 13-3 lead. Ursinus tacked on two more later in the quarter to take the 15-3 lead into the break.
  • Alvernia opened up the fourth quarter with a goal from Makenna Thomas off the assist of Smith to make it a 15-4 game. But, Ursinus scored three goals over the next five minutes to build its lead up to 18-4. Alvernia scored one more goal off the shot of Smith in the final 90 seconds for the 18-5 final.
