Tyler’s Career Day Leads Golden Wolves Past Griffins, 18-2

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. (March 22, 2025) - Alvernia University (2-6) scored a season-high 18 goals to down Gwynedd Mercy (2-8) 18-2 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Gwynedd Mercy.

Alvernia posted four goals in the first quarter before its scoring really came alive with a seven-goal second quarter to take an 11-0 lead into the half. Alvernia added seven more in the second half for the 18-2 final.

The two goals allowed by the Golden Wolves was the least allowed since an 18-1 win over King's on March 16 of last season.

How it Happened
 
  • After a scoreless opening four minutes, Alvernia got on the board with a goal from Hannah Tyler off the assist of Mia Martin. Alvernia went another eight minutes without scoring, but the Golden Wolves defense kept the Griffins off the board.
  • A free-position goal by Hailey Miller and a man-up goal by Makenna Thomas gave Alvernia the 3-0 lead with 1:49 to play in the opening quarter. Tyler then book-ended the quarter for Alvernia with a man-up goal to give Alvernia the 4-0 lead going into second.
  • The Golden Wolves kept it rolling in the second quarter. Miller opened the quarter with a goal off the assist of Gracie Brower, and Sherrin Smith made it a 6-0 game on free-position goal. 
  • Tyler then recorded her third goal of the game with 10:20 to play in the quarter, and, after assisting on two goals earlier in the game, Brower got in on the scoring herself to make it an 8-0 game with 9:17 to play in the half. 
  • Smith kept things going for Alvernia and made it a 9-0 game with 8:38 to play, and Tyler recorded her fourth of the afternoon to make it 10-0 with 7:28 to go and start the running clock. Thomas closed out the quarter for Alvernia with a goal with 2:18 to play to make it an 11-0 game going into the half.
  • Sophia Ruocco opened the second half with a man-up goal for the 12-0 lead. Gwynedd Mercy finally got on the board with a free-position goal, but Alvernia made it a 12-goal game two minutes later on another goal from Tyler.
  • The Golden Wolves opened the final frame with Tyler netting her sixth goal of the afternoon - this time on a free-position - to make it a 14-1 game. Kayla Bowman followed with her first collegiate goal, and Lindsay Kerchner made it a 15-1 game with her first of the afternoon to make it 16-1 with 5:52 to play. 
  • Martin scored her first goal of the game on a free-position shot to make it 17-1 with four minutes to play, and Tyler scored her seventh of the afternoon to cap off Alvernia's scoring and give Alvernia the 18-1 lead. Gwynedd scored in the final seconds on a man-up goal for the 18-2 final.

Inside the Box Score
  • Hannah Tyler scored a career-high seven goals and added two assists for nine points on the afternoon. Her seven goals came on eight shot-on goal attempts. 
  • Sherrin Smith finished with two goals and two assists for four points, and Mia Martin and Gracie Brower each had three points on a goal and two assists. 
  • Kayleigh Kight had a team-high six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Cailyn Hawley finished with a team-high six draw controls. 
  • Hannah Wolfe and Marissa Zocco combined for five saves in goal.
