Alvernia Falls to Stockton, 17-8

Reading, Pa. (March 29, 2025) - Alvernia University (2-8) fell to Stockton University (9-2), 17-8, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Alvernia.

The Osprey took a 5-0 lead early and led 13-1 at the half. Alvernia outscored Stockton 7-4 in the second half, but the Osprey's first half lead was too much for Alvernia to overcome as Stockton took the 17-8 win.

Stockton opened the scoring with two goals in the first three minutes, and made it a 3-0 game through the first five minutes on a man-up goal. Stockton pushed its lead to 5-0 through the first half of the opening quarter before Alvernia got on the board with a free-position goal by Hannah Tyler with 5:31 to play in the opening quarter. But, Stockton closed out the first half on an 8-0 run to take a 13-1 lead going into the half. 

Stockton scored the opening goal of the half, but Alvernia answered with a goal by Lindsay Kerchner off the feed of Sherin Smith. Stockton responded to take a 15-2 lead, but Kerchner found the back of the net again for Alvernia's third goal of the afternoon with 5:38 remaining in the third frame. Tyler then made it a 15-4 game three minutes later on her second goal of the afternoon, and Gracie Brower cut within ten, 15-5, on a goal with 38 seconds to play in the third quarter.

After a scoreless first six minutes of the fourth quarter, Stockton pushed its lead back up to 11, 16-5, but Smith got it back ten, 16-6, with six minutes to play.

Stockton once again pushed it back to 11, 17-6, with its final goal of the game with 3:53 to play. Alvernia finished off the game with a man-up goal from Brower off the assist of Tyler, and Kerschner scored her third of the day in the final seconds to make it a 17-8 final.

Lindsay Kerchner, Hannah Tyler, and Sherrin Smith all finished with three points. Kerchner's three points came off of three goals, Tyler had two goals and an assist, and Smith had one goal and two assists. With Smith's three points, she eclipsed the 100 career point mark. 

Smith led Alvernia with four draw control wins. Tyler, Cailyn Hawley, and Hailey Miller each finished with three. Kayleigh Kight had a team-high three ground balls, and Hannah Wolfe finished with seven saves in net for Alvernia.

Today marked the final non-conference game of the season for Alvernia. The Golden Wolves will open up MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday, April 5 at Widener.
