Cottrell Named Rookie of the Year, Hamilton and Kelly Named Second Team All-MAC Commonwealth

Reading, Pa (March 5, 2025) - Alvernia University first year Robert Cottrell was named the MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year and Jakob Kelly and Elijah Hamilton both earned Second Team All-MAC Commonwealth honors for their performances during the 2024-2025 season as announced by the Middle Atlantic Conference Wednesday. 

Cottrell is the second straight Rookie of the Year for Alvernia and is the seventh straight season that Alvernia has had either a Rookie of the Year, Player of the Year or Defensive Player of the Year. 

Cottrell finished 14th in the Commonwealth in scoring with 309 total points and averaged 11.4 points per game. Cottrell played in all 27 games for the Golden Wolves and recorded 763 minutes played, recorded 105 field goals made and knocked down 28 three pointers. Cottrell also recorded 71 made free throws, dished out 62 assists, recorded 32 steals and nine blocks. Cottrell recorded 17 games with ten or more points and posted a season high 23 points in a massive late season victory over Eastern. 

Jakob Kelly earned second team All-MAC Commonwealth honors and wrapped up his terrific career as a Golden Wolf with his third All-MAC Commonwealth nod of his career to go along with his 2020-2021 Commonwealth Rookie of the Year honor. Kelly finished tenth in scoring in the MAC Commonwealth with 346 points and averaged just under 13 points per game. Kelly finished fourth in minutes played in the Commonwealth, knocked down 124 field goals, 34 three pointers and 64 free throws. Kelly also finished fourth in the Commonwealth in rebounds with 203 and averaged 7.5 rebounds per game. Kelly also finished second in the conference in assists with 96 and his 1.6 assist to turnover ratio was fourth best in the Commonwealth. 

Elijah Hamilton rounded out the All-MAC Commonwealth honors as a Second Team All-MAC Commonwealth Forward in his first season with the Golden Wolves. Hamilton played in 27 games and led the Commonwealth in minutes played with 938. Hamilton also finished fourth in the Commonwealth in scoring with 412 points and averaged 15.3 points per game. Hamilton recorded 156 field goals, 92 free throws and knocked down eight shots from beyond the arc. Hamilton also finished second in the conference in rebounding with 230 rebounds and averaged 8.5 rebounds per game. Hamilton also recorded 36 blocks, 27 assists and 11 steals. 

York's Kai Cipalla earned Player of the Year Honors, Albright's Phanique Dupree was named Defensive Player of the Year and Albright's Rick Ferry was named MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year.
