Golden Wolves Fall to Saints, 16-4

Arlington, Va (March 8, 2025) - Alvernia University 0-4) dropped a non-conference women's lacrosse matchup to Marymount University (5-1) 16-4, Saturday afternoon at Marymount. 

Marymount grabbed a 9-3 lead after the first two quarters of play and then recorded a seven goal third quarter en route to the victory. 

How it Happened 
  • The Saints struck first just three minutes into the game after a free position goal gave Marymount the 1-0 lead. 
  • Marymount then added two more goals in the next two minutes to push the lead to 3-0 after five minutes of play. 
  • The Saints made it 4-0 just a few minutes later but Alvernia responded with a Hannah Tyler unassisted goal to put the Golden Wolves on the board and pull within three, 4-1. 
  • Marymount pushed the lead to five after two goals in the final two minutes of the first quarter to take a 6-1 lead into the second quarter. 
  • The Saints added two more goals in the second period to push the advantage to 8-1 with under six to play in the first half. 
  • Alvernia's Sherrin Smith then netted a short handed goal thanks to an assist from Mia Martin to make it 8-2. 
  • Marymount responded with a goal of its own with just over a minute to play in the half but Smith responded 30 seconds later to cut the lead to six, 9-3, at the half. 
  • The Saints came out of the half and netted seven goals in the third quarter and held Alvernia scoreless to push the lead to 16-3. 
  • Alvernia's Smith netted the only goal in the fourth quarter as Marymount secured the 16-4 victory. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Sherrin Smith netted three of Alvernia's four goals and Hannah Tyler scored the other goal. 
  • Mia Martin tallied an assist for the Golden Wolves and Tyler led the way with four ground balls. 
  • Hannah Wolfe recorded four saves in net for the Golden Wolves and Marissa Zocco recorded one save in net. 

Up Next 
  • Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday when they travel up to Dallas, Pa to take on Misericordia in a MAC crossover matchup with the Cougars. Game time is slated for 5:00 PM.
