Reading, Pa. (June 27, 2025) - Alvernia Director of Athletics and Recreation
Cory Beddick announced on Friday the promotion of Marisa Lombardo to Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications and Operations.
Lombardo has been with Alvernia in a full-time capacity since July of 2018 and became the Director of Sports Information and Operations in 2021. Lombardo will continue her work leading Alvernia's Athletic Communications Office, and will take on an expanded role in game day management and administration as the Assistant Athletic Director. Lombardo will join Megan Corrigan (Associate Athletic Director/SWA/Head Women's Lacrosse Coach), Rayne deMarteleire (Assistant Athletic Director/Head Women's Basketball Coach), and
Elizabeth Sands (Executive Assistant for Athletics) on Beddick's Athletic Administration team.
"Marisa's commitment to our student-athletes, department, and Alvernia made this decision a no-brainer," said Beddick. "She has earned the opportunity to move into a leadership role through her hard work, passion for Alvernia, and her dedication to ensuring that we are providing a first-class athletic experience to our student-athletes. We know that she will continue to contribute to a thriving athletic department and campus community."
"I am incredibly grateful to Cory and Alvernia for this opportunity," said Lombardo. "Alvernia has been my home for over 10 years, and it is a lot of fun getting to work with and cover our student-athletes and staff every day. I am excited for this next chapter of my time at Alvernia."
Lombardo has been honored for her work by College Sports Communicators (CSC – formally CoSIDA). In 2023 she was named to the second annual CSC 30 Under 30 Class. The 30 Under 30 Class is made up of sports communicators across all three NCAA divisions and the NAIA across the United States and Canada. Lombardo was also featured in the 2022 College Sports Communicators Women to Watch series and, prior to that, won the Fred Stabley Writing Contest in her district. This past year she was honored for her graphic design work, earning "Best of Division III" for a milestone and record graphic.
Lombardo has implemented new series and projects within the Athletic Communications Office alongside
Nick Anderson and
Kyle Storti. Some of these projects include the "Dear Series," mic'd ups, and graphic design packages for each academic year. The team also works to provide enhanced social media and broadcast coverage of Alvernia's 31 athletic teams and nearly 700 student-athletes.
Lombardo was an undergraduate student at Alvernia from 2013-2017, earning degrees in marketing and communication. She then became the Graduate Assistant for Athletics and Wellness from 2017 through 2018 while obtaining her master's in business administration with a marketing concentration. She then became the Assistant Sports Information Director in 2018, and the Director of Sports Information in 2021.
