Golden Wolves and Mules Play to 0-0 Draw

Reading, Pa (August 29, 2025) - Alvernia University Men's Soccer (0-0-1) opened up its 2025 campaign with a 0-0 draw against Muhlenberg College (0-0-1) Friday night in a non-conference matchup at Alvernia.

The seven o'clock contest kicked off the 2025 fall season and for a second season in a row, the Golden Wolves and Mules played to a season opening 0-0 draw. Muhlenberg finished with more shots and shots on goal with ten shots and seven on goal, but Alvernia's keeper Evan Solley held the Mules scoreless with a classic, veteran performance between the posts.

How it Happened
  • Muhlenberg tested the waters offensively with a shot from Owen Zoeller that was heading to the lower left corner of the net but Solley was able to get in front of it and keep the Mules out of the goal.
  • The Golden Wolves then rattled off three shots in three minutes but all three went either wide or were blocked by defenders as the game stayed locked at 0-0.
  • The Mules rounded out the first half with the only shot on goal in the final 15 minutes of play as Alvernia and Muhlenberg headed into the half tied at zero.
  • Muhlenberg continued to attack the offensive third in the second half and out shot the Golden Wolves 7-2 and put five of the seven shots on goal.
  • The Mules came out and tallied three shots on goal in the first 12 minutes of the second half but Solley saved all three.
  • The Golden Wolves then flipped onto the offensive two minutes later when first year Josh Ertel put a shot into the lower left corner from the left side of the 18 yard box but Muhlenberg keeper Ben Mulford made the save to keep it a 0-0 tie.
  • Muhlenberg rattled off four more shots in the final 30 minutes of the contest with two going on target, but again, Alvernia's Solley continued to be a brick wall and denied the Mules a chance at a winner.
  • Alvernia's Connor Kraycik had one chance at the end of the game in the final three minutes of the contest but his attempt at goal went over the crossbar as the game ended in a 0-0 draw for the second straight season.
