Bullets Net Overtime Winner, Take Down Golden Wolves, 3-2

Reading, Pa (August 30, 2025) - Gettysburg College (1-0) scored an overtime winning goal in the first four minutes of the OT period to secure a 3-2 victory over Alvernia University (0-1) Saturday afternoon in a non-conference field hockey clash at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves and the Bullets played into the overtime period for a second straight season with Gettysburg taking both OT contests after defeating Alvernia, 2-1, last year in overtime.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves opened up the scoring in the first two minutes of the second quarter after a scoreless first. Alvernia found the back of the net after a corner was inserted by Sofia Mollura, the ball was then played back to Mollura who played a ball across the face of the cage to the stick of Caroline Martin who was able to put the ball into the back of the net to put the Golden Wolves up 1-0 early in the second quarter.
  • The Bullets fired three shots on the Alvernia net in the final five minutes of the half but Alvernia goalie Zoe Caloviras saved all three of them to preserve the 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
  • Gettysburg then flipped the script and netted two goals in the final six minutes of the third quarter to swing the lead in its favor, 2-1, heading into the final 15 minutes of action.
  • The Golden Wolves would fire five shots at the Gettysburg net in the fourth quarter with three of them going on target before finding the game tying goal in the final four minutes of regulation. Alvernia found the back of the net off of a corner for the second time on the day, this time Mollura inserted the ball to Kelsy McClintock who then pushed it to Lillian Case at the top of the circle, Case then dropped it back to McClintock who fired a shot from the top of the circle that slipped past the Gettysburg goalie and inside the right post to level the score at two a piece to force the game into OT.
  • The Bullets then tallied the game winner in the first four minutes of the overtime period after Margaret-Ann Graves put the ball in the back of the net to secure the 3-2 victory over the Golden Wolves.
