Alvernia Falls to Susquehanna, 2-1

Reading, Pa (September 2, 2025) - Alvernia University (0-2) dropped a one goal contest to Susquehanna University (1-1) 2-1, for the second straight game Tuesday night in a non-conference field hockey matchup at Alvernia.

All three of the goals scored in tonight's contest came in the second quarter and the River Hawks found the game winner just under two minutes after Alvernia leveled the score at one.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves came out flying in the first 20 seconds of the game after Caroline Martin centered the ball to the stick of Ava Michael in front of the Susquehanna goal but Michael's shot was deflected off target and wide.
  • That would be the only shot the Golden Wolves recorded in the first quarter and the River Hawks ripped three shots at the Alvernia net with one going on target but they were unable to put the ball into the back of the net as the game headed to the second quarter tied at zero.
  • The River Hawks struck first four just over three minutes into the second quarter after they were awarded a penalty corner, Lexi Kresge assisted Kiara Koeller to make it a 1-0 game.
  • The Golden Wolves bounced back six minutes later after Martin carried the ball into the Susquehanna circle, she then dribbled around a defender and the River Hawk's goalie before flipping the ball to Michael who put the ball away this time and leveled the score at one in the final six minutes of the half.
  • Susquehanna then responded one minute and 45 seconds later when Hannah Garlin put the ball across the face of the Alvernia goal and found the stick of Mady Quigley on the back post, Quigley then pushed the ball into the Alvernia goal and made it 2-1 River Hawks heading into the halftime intermission.
  • The Golden Wolves would send four shots at the Susquehanna goal in the final 30 minutes of action and put two shots on goal but Susquehanna's Kylie Schmidt saved both of them and the River Hawks defense held strong to secure the one goal victory over Alvernia.
