Golden Wolves Fall to Fords in Last Minute, 2-1

Reading, Pa (September 13, 2025) - Alvernia University (2-3) fell to Haverford College (4-1) 2-1, after the Fords netted the game winning goal in the final minute of the contest Saturday night in a non-conference field hockey tilt at Alvernia University.

The Fords grabbed the lead shortly into the second quarter and held the 1-0 lead into the half. The Golden Wolves leveled the score five minutes into the second half after Ava Michael drove a ball towards goal and into the stick of Alessandra Stevens who directed it into the back of the net but Haverford found the game winner in the final minute of the contest to secure the 2-1 victory over the Golden Wolves.

How it Happened
  •  A scoreless first quarter was powered by a great defensive effort by the Golden Wolves as they fended off four penalty corners in the quarter and seven total shots from the Fords. Four of the seven Haverford shots went on target but Alvernia's goalie Zoe Caloviras saved all four as the game headed to the second quarter scoreless.
  • The Fords got on the board first just over four minutes into the second quarter after Abigail Trapp found the stick of Erica Pardon to make it 1-0 Haverford.
  • The Golden Wolves fended off one last shot by the Fords in the final four minutes of the half as Haverford took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
  • Alvernia came out firing to start the second half and fired two shots and won two corners in the first five minutes of the third quarter before putting the ball into the back of the net at the 35 minute mark. After a penalty corner was inserted by Sofia Mollura that went to the stick of Ava Michael, Michael then fired the ball toward the face of goal and found the stick of Alessandra Stevens who directed it on goal and past the Haverford goalie to level the score at one a piece.
  • The Fords responded with two shots on goal and two penalty corners in the final nine minutes of the third quarter but Caloviras and the Golden Wolves defense held strong to take the game into the fourth quarter locked at one.
  • Alvernia had a chance to take the lead in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter after a Caroline Martin shot was saved and the Golden Wolves were awarded a corner but they could not find the back of the net.
  • Haverford then responded with a chance in the 52nd minute after a Erica Pardon shot to the far post ricocheted off the post and out to keep it tied at 1-1.
  • The Fords then found the game winner with 43 seconds to go after the Golden Wolves surrendered a corner. The Fords then inserted the corner and after a ball was driven towards goal by Pardon to the Stick of Alice Stein, Stein slipped the ball inside the near post and into the back of the goal to secure the 2-1 victory.
