Pair of Second Half Goals Powers Alvernia Past Goucher, 2-1

Towson, MD (Sep. 13, 2025) -  Alvernia Women's Soccer (2-2-2) scored two second half goals to down Goucher College (1-6-0) 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at Goucher College.

Alvernia got on the board with Olivia Hanley's first collegiate goal in the 53rd minute. The Golden Wolves then made it a 2-0 game in the 81st minute on a beautiful free kick goal by Camille Quirin-Morris. Goucher then got on the board in the 90 seconds for the 2-1 final.

How it Happened
  • Both teams traded looks on goal in the opening minutes. Kayleigh McKeown sent in a header shot in the 2nd minute that was saved by Goucher's Nia George. Goucher then responded with a shot on goal two and a half minutes later, but Abigail Rowley made the save for Alvernia to keep the game at 0-0 early.
  • The Golden Wolves took control from there. Sarah Warner sent in shots on goal in the 11th and 13th minutes, but Goucher made both stops. Alvernia sent in three more looks on goal - including three in a three minute span late in the half - but Goucher made the stops to send the game into the half tied at 0-0. Alvernia finished the first half with 11 shots, nine of which were on goal, and held Goucher to just three shots, only one of which was on goal.
  • Alvernia then broke through in the 53rd minute. Macy McDonough found Hanley on a short pass through a trio of Goucher defenders. Olivia Hanley picked up the pass and beat the Goucher keeper one-on-one with a shot just over the keeper's shoulder to put Alvernia on the board, 1-0.
  • The Golden Wolves kept peppering the Gophers through much of the second half, but Goucher kept Alvernia from adding to its lead.
  • The Golden Wolves broke through again on what would be a much needed insurance goal in the 81st minute.  Alvernia was awarded a free kick and Quirin-Morris fired a rocket of a shot in, burying it into the upper left corner of the goal, just past the diving hand of the Goucher keeper.
  • The Gophers spoiled Alvernia's shutout bid in the 89th minute. Goucher sent in a free kick and Becca Maddox for the Gophers was able to get an off-balance shot off and find the back of the net with 1:31 second play. Alvernia had one more look in the final 30 seconds, but it was off target as the Golden Wolves picked up the 2-1 win.
