Alvernia Goes 1-1 at Home Tri-Match

Reading, Pa. (Sep. 13, 2025) - Alvernia Women's Volleyball (4-3) split its home tri-match on Saturday afternoon with the Golden Wolves dropping their opener to Elizabethtown College (6-2) before bouncing back with a 3-0 win over Brooklyn College (2-4) to close out the day.

Alvernia took the first set of match one, 25-19, over Elizabethtown to open the day. But, the Blue Jays took three straight sets to close out the match, 3-1. Alvernia bounced back in match two, completing a sweep of Brooklyn College.

Women's Volleyball - Match One: Elizabethtown 3, Alvernia 1
  • Alvernia trailed the first set early, 5-3, but a kill by Allison Wolf sparked a 10-2  run for the Golden Wolves that gave Alvernia the 13-7 lead. Alvernia kept it rolling from there and built its lead to eight, 16-8, on a kill from Allie Evangelista. The Blue Jays battled back into it and cut Alvernia's lead down to four, 17-13, but a string of four straight points gave Alvernia the 21-13 advantage. Alvernia then closed out the opening set with kills by Angelina Salera and Evangelista, 25-19.
  • The Blue Jays responded in the second set and took an early 6-2 lead. Alvernia got two back on a Wolf kill and a Blue Jay attack error, but Elizabethtown went up by five, 9-4, over the next few rallies. Alvernia got back within one, 9-8, with four straight points - including two aces by Wolf - but Elizabethtown answered with an 8-2 run to take a 17-9 lead. The Golden Wolves didn't threaten the rest of the set as Elizabethtown took the set, 25-12, and tied the match at 1-1.
  • With the third set tied at 4-4 early, Alvernia took the 7-4 set lead on two attack errors and a block by Salera. Elizabethtown bounced back and used a 6-2 run to take a 12-9 lead. The Golden Wolves responded with a 7-2 run of its own. The run included four kills for Alvernia on an Evangelista ace as Alvernia took a 16-14 lead. With the set tied at 19-19, Elizabethtown broke the tie and took a 22-19 lead on a kill and three Alvernia attack errors. Elizabethtown then closed out the set, 25-21, on a kill to take the 2-1 match lead.
  • The Blue Jays made quick work of the fourth set, taking an early 12-3 lead. Alvernia got a pair of points back on kills from Olivia Rohrbaugh and Evangelista. But, the Blue Jays ran away with the set from there and sealed the set, 25-10, and the match, 3-1, on an attack error.

Women's Volleyball - Match Two: Alvernia 3, Brooklyn 0
  • Alvernia got off to a fast start in set one, jumping out to an early 7-0 lead. Evangelista, Wolf, and McDevitt contributed kills during the early run, and Rohrbaugh added an ace. Brooklyn battled back and got within two, 7-5. Alvernia responded with a quick four-point run that was capped by an Evangelista ace to give Alvernia an 11-5 lead. Brooklyn again battled back, tying the set at 12-12, and eventually taking a 16-14 lead. Alvernia responded again with a seven point run that included back-to-back aces by Marli Emrich to take a 21-16 lead. After Brooklyn again got within one, Alvernia closed out the set on a service error to take the opening frame, 25-23. 
  • Brooklyn had an early 10-5 lead in the second set before Alvernia used a 6-0 run to take the lead. An attack error on the Bulldogs ignited the Alvernia run and the Golden Wolves tied it at 10-10 on another attack error. Alvernia then took the 11-10 lead on a third attack error by the Bulldogs. After a back-and-forth midway through the set, the Golden Wolves led by two, 21-19, late. Alvernia then closed out the set on a  4-0 run to seal the set, 25-19. A block by McDevitt and Evangelista was the set-sealing point. 
  • The Golden Wolves started the third set fast and took an early 6-2 lead following a kill by McDevitt and a Brooklyn attack error. Brooklyn bounced back and closed within one, 7-6. Alvernia pushed the lead back to five, 11-6, following three kills and a Brooklyn error, but Brooklyn pushed back and kept it close, 19-16, as the set was nearing its end. A late 6-0 run by the Bulldogs threatened to send the match into the fourth set as Brooklyn tied it at 22-22 and then took a 23-22 lead. Alvernia tied it back at 23-23 on a Rohrbaugh kill, but the Bulldogs retook the lead, 24-23. Alvernia tied it at 24-24 on an error and then was able to close out the set, 26-24, and the match, 3-0,  on back-to-back kills by Wolf.

Inside the Box Score: Match Two
  • Allison Wolf followed her 15 kill performance against Elizabethtown with a 14 kills off of 39 attacks in match two. 
  • Olivia Rohrbaugh and Hailey McDevitt also posted double-digit kills. Rohrbaugh finished with 11 kills and McDevitt added ten. She also finished with 10 digs. 
  • Caroline Buggy had a match-high 21 digs, and Marli Emrich finished with 34 assists.
