Golden Wolves Sweep Lions, 3-0

Reading, Pa. (Sep. 19, 2025) - Alvernia Women's Volleyball (5-4) picked up a 3-0 win over Penn State Berks (0-8) on Friday night in non-conference women's volleyball action at Berks.

The Golden Wolves picked up their fifth win of the season. The 3-0 win over Berks marks Alvernia's final match before conference play begins next week.

How it Happened
  • The first set was back-and-forth early, and Penn State Berks led 13-10 midway through the opening frame. An Allison Wolf kill and back-to-back aces by Olivia Rohrbaugh tied the set at 13-13. Alvernia kept it rolling from there. The Golden Wolves scored seven straight points to take a 20-13 lead. Most of Alvernia's points came off of Berks attack errors, but Alvernia also grabbed points during the run  on a Wolf kill and a combo block from Hailey McDevitt and Angelina Salera
  • The Lions got a few points back, but a McDevitt ace and Lions error brought the set to set point, 24-16. Penn State Berks got a pair of points back before Alvernia closed out the set, 25-18, on a solo block by Allie Evangelista
  • Alvernia got off to a fast start in the second set. The Golden Wolves took a 17-3 lead, rattling off a 14-point run after an early 3-3 tie. Alvernia's run came off the serve of Melina Stinsky. Stinsky recorded four aces during the run and Evangelista added three kills. The 14-point run came to an end on an Alvernia attack error, but Alvernia got right back to work on the next point.
  • A pair of Berks errors and a kill by Wolf gave Alvernia the 20-4 lead. Alvernia got to set point, 24-9, on a Rohrbaugh kill. Berks held off Alvernia for two points before the Golden Wolves sealed the 25-11 set win on an Angelina Salera kill.
  • The Lions led through the early points of the third set, but back-to-back kills by Rohrbaugh and an Evangelista ace tied the set at 8-8. After another tie at 10-10, Alvernia retook the lead, 13-10, on a Penn State error and back-to-back aces by Marli Emrich
  • The Golden Wolves couldn't gain as much ground in the third frame. Alvernia built its lead up to 18-14 on an Emrich kill and Berks attack error, but the Lions came right back and got within one, 18-17. Alvernia built its lead back up to six, 23-17, on three straight aces by Wolf. A fourth straight ace by Wolf got Alvernia to match-point, 24-17. The Lions prevented five straight aces and held off match-point for five points before Alvernia closed out the match, 25-22, on an Evangelista kill.
