Alvernia Drops MAC Commonwealth Opener to Albright, 3-0

Reading, Pa (September 24, 2025) - Alvernia University (5-5, 0-1) dropped its MAC Commonwealth season opener to rival Albright College (4-7, 1-0), 3-0, Wednesday night in women's volleyball action on Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court.

The Lions recorded a 25-22 victory in set one, a 25-18 victory in set two and secured the 3-0 win with a 25-20 set three victory.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves jumped out to an early 7-0 lead to force an Albright timeout and then pushed the lead to 8-2 thanks to three kills from Hailey McDevitt and kills from Allison Wolf and Angelina Salera
  • Albright then turned around and rattled off a 9-3 scoring run to tie the game at 11 and force an Alvernia timeout midway through the first set.
  • Alvernia responded out of the timeout and recorded a 6-2 scoring run to take a 17-13 lead over the Lions but Albright responded with a 12-5 run to end the first set and recorded a 25-22 victory in set one.
  • Albright were the ones to grab the lead early in the second set and took a 5-1 lead to force an early Alvernia timeout. Out of the timeout, Alvernia bounced back with six five straight points to swing the lead in its favor, 6-5.
  • The Lions and the Golden Wolves then traded points back and forth as the set headed to the back half tied at 14 a piece. Alvernia's Wolf and Allie Evangelista both recorded two kills for Alvernia and McDevitt and Olivia Rohrbaugh notched one each during the stretch.
  • Albright would end the set on another scoring run, a 11-4 run, that secured the second set 25-18 and saw the Lions take a 2-0 match lead.
  • The Golden Wolves and Lions traded points yet again to start the third set before the Golden Wolves grabbed a 10-8 lead.
  • Alvernia would then record eight of the next 15 points to grab a three point, 18-15 lead over the Lions and force an Albright timeout.
  • Albright ended the set on yet another scoring run, this one a 10-2 run to post a 25-20 victory in set three and secured the 3-0 win.
