Golden Wolves Fall to Pride, 3-1

Chester, Pa. (Sep. 30, 2025) - Alvernia Women's Volleyball (5-6, 0-2) dropped a MAC Commonwealth Women's Volleyball match to Widener University (6-9, 2-0), 3-1, on Tuesday night at Widener University.

The Golden Wolves dropped the first set of the contest, 25-14, before battling back and taking set two, 25-22. The final two frames were closely contested, but the Pride were able to take both, 25-23 and 25-18, to take the match, 3-1.

How it Happened
  • After falling 25-14 in the first set, Alvernia bounced back in the second. The Pride picked up the first point of the set, but Alvernia responded with five straight to take a 5-1 lead. An Allison Wolf kill and Melina Stinsky ace powered the early run. Alvernia kept it rolling early in the second frame and an Allie Evangelista kill and Hailey McDevitt ace made it an 8-2 set.
  • The Pride closed in and hovered within three until Alvernia pulled back away, 15-9, on a trio of Widener errors and an ace from Caroline Buggy. A Stinsky ace then made it a seven-point set, 18-11. Widener threatened and got within two, 21-19, but Alvernia pulled away to close out the set. A Widener error and back-to-back kills by McDevitt got the Golden Wolves to set point, 24-19. Widener held off Alvernia for three points before the Golden Wolves secured the set, 25-22, on a Widener attack error.
  • WIdener jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third set before Alvernia closed within one, 7-6, on a kill by Buggy. The set was closely contested from there. The match saw seven ties and a trio of lead changes before it was tied at 22-22 late. Alvernia took a 23-22 lead on a kill by Olivia Rohrbaugh, but the Pride tied it right back up at 23-23 on an Alvernia error. Widener then got to set point on Widener kill. Alvernia called a late timeout, but Widener answered out of the timeout with a set-sealing ace to take the third frame, 25-23, and match lead, 2-1.
  • The Pride took a 5-1 lead in the fourth set, but Alvernia quickly got back within two, 6-4, on a Widener service error. The close set did not last long as Widener pulled away with a 7-1 run to take a 13-5 lead. Alvernia got within five late, 19-14, but the Golden Wolves never threatened in the fourth set. Alvernia held off two match points with back-to-back kills by Wolf before Widener closed out the set, 25-18, on an attack error to also seal the match, 3-1.
