Blue Jays Fend Off Comeback, Take Down Golden Wolves, 3-2, in 13th Annual Kicks For Cancer Game

Reading, Pa (September 20, 2025) - Alvernia University (2-4-2) netted two goals in the final six minutes of the contest but could not complete the three goal comeback as Elizabethtown College (3-4) recorded a 3-2 victory over the Golden Wolves Saturday night in a non-conference men's soccer clash at Alvernia University.

The matchup between the Golden Wolves and the Blue Jays marked the 13th annual Kicks for Cancer game which aims to raise money and awareness for cancer research. The honorary captain for tonight's contest was Kelly Naylon.

Elizabethtown found two quick goals to jump out to an early 2-0 lead and then tacked a third goal on in the 65th minute. Alvernia then came roaring back in the final six minutes of the contest and netted two goals as they tried to salvage a draw but could not as the Blue Jays secured the 3-2 victory.

How it Happened
  • The Blue Jays got on the board in the 12th minute after Dan Dein collected a rebound just outside of the 18 yard box, Dein then flicked the ball over the heads of the Alvernia defense and into the top left corner of the goal to give Elizabethtown the 1-0 lead.
  • Elizabethtown doubled its lead just six minutes later after the Golden Wolves surrendered a penalty kick. Elizabethtown's Gui Yamamoto stepped up to the spot and took a 2-0 lead into the half.
  • The Blue Jays tacked on a third goal in the 65th minute after a beautiful goal from Jude Ashley from outside the 18 yard box made it a three goal lead for Elizabethtown.
  • Alvernia grabbed one back in the 85th minute after Connor Kraycik whipped a cross in from the left wing and found the head of Chase Malone on the back post, Malone snuck his header inside the right post and made it a 3-1 game.
  • The Golden Wolves then made things interesting with an 89th minute goal by Joseph Washington after an assist from Malone made it a 3-2 ballgame in the dying seconds of the contest.
  • Alvernia made one last push in the final minute but were unable to find the equalizer as the Blue Jays held on for the 3-2 victory over the Golden Wolves.
