Golden Wolves Blank Cougars, 1-0

Flaherty's First Half Goal Enough for the Golden Wolves

Reading, Pa. (Sep. 24, 2025) - Alvernia University (2-4-2) picked up a 1-0 win over Kean University (4-2-1) on Wednesday night in non-conference women's soccer action at Alvernia.

Tayler Flaherty scored in the 29th minute for the Golden Wolves, and that goal proved to be enough for Alvernia as the Golden Wolves won its second straight matchup against the Cougars.

How it Happened
  • Kean maintained solid control through the first 23 minutes of the half. The Cougars prevented an Alvernia shot on goal and  were able to fire off eight shots of their own. Alvernia's defense, behind keeper Emily Rosino, held strong to keep it a 0-0 game.
  • Alvernia had its first look of the night late in the 24th minute on an Emily Walters shot, but the Cougars made the save.
  • Four minutes later, Kayleigh McKeown passed the ball from the left side of the field across to Tayler Flaherty. Flaherty beat her defender and ripped a shot in from 25 yards out. The shot hit the cross bar, bounced down and into the goal to give Alvernia the 1-0 lead.
  • The Cougars responded back and outshot Alvernia 5-1 in the remaining minutes of the half, but a pair of Rossino saves helped Alvernia take the 1-0 lead into the half.
  • Kean had plenty of opportunities in the second half, outshooting the Golden Wolves 9-1 in the second half. Rossino made five second half saves to preserve the shutout. Victoria Conway had one look for Alvernia in the 86th minute, but it went high. The Cougars had possession in the final minute, but Alvernia held strong for the 1-0 win.
Inside the Box Score
  • Tayler Flaherty finished with one goal on one shot, marking her second goal of the season.
  • Emily Rossino picked up her first win of the season with a nine-save performance.
