Alvernia and John Jay Play to 1-1 Draw

Randall's Island, N.Y. (September 27, 2025) - Alvernia University (2-4-3) recorded a 1-1 draw against John Jay College (4-2-2) Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action in Randall's Island, New York.

The Golden Wolves netted an early goal in the first half of the contest to take a 1-0 lead and held that lead until the 70th minute when John Jay was awarded a penalty kick that they converted to salvage a 1-1 draw.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board first in the 25th minute after Tayler Flaherty netted an unassisted goal to open the scoring and put Alvernia up 1-0 early in the half. Flaherty sent a corner kick into the box that was headed out by the Bulldogs, Flaherty then collected the clearance and from the left wing ripped an absolute rocket into the top right corner of the goal.
  • Alvernia held onto the one goal lead for the final 20 minutes of the half and tallied one more shot on goal off the foot of Hannah Woodward but her shot was saved as the Golden Wolves took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
  • The Golden Wolves fired six shots at the Bulldogs net in the first 20 minutes of second half before the Bulldogs found the leveler in the 70th minute after a penalty kick was called, Sofia Soler converted her opportunity from the spot and tied the game at one.
  • Alvernia would send just two more shots on goal in the final 20 minutes of the contest but both went wide as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
