Golden Wolves Fall to Cougars in OT, 2-1

Reading, Pa. (September 27, 2025) - Kean University (4-4) netted the game winning goal just 23 seconds into the overtime period to secure a 2-1 victory over Alvernia University (3-6) Saturday afternoon in a non-conference field hockey clash at Alvernia University.

All three goals were scored in the second half and the Cougars struck first in the 37th minute. The Golden Wolves then responded to the Cougars with an Ava Michael penalty stroke goal that tied the game at one. The Cougars netted the game winner 23 seconds into the overtime period en route to the 2-1 victory over the Golden Wolves.

How it Happened
  • A scoreless first half was highlighted by seven total shots for the Golden Wolves including three on goal. The Golden Wolves also had a penalty stroke opportunity with under eight minutes to go in the first half but Sofia Mollura could not convert her opportunity from the spot as the game headed to the half tied at zero.
  • The Cougars opened up the scoring in the 37th minute after Emmah Devlin found the back of the net and gave Kean a 1-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
  • The Golden Wolves recorded two shots and one penalty corner in the fourth quarter before Ava Michael drew a penalty stroke in the 56th minute of the contest. Michael stepped up to the spot and ripped a shot inside the left post and past the diving Kean goalie to level the game at one in the final four minutes of regulation.
  • The Alvernia defense staved off two penalty corners and a shot by the Cougars to keep the game tied at one and sent it into overtime.
  • Kean found the game winner 23 seconds into the overtime period after a Karli Pritchett shot hit the post and the rebound fell to Joslin Cain who put the ball into the back of the cage to win the game for the Cougars.
