Martin Nets Four, Powers Golden Wolves to 5-3 Victory Over Blue Jays

Elizabethtown, Pa. (September 30, 2025) - The Alvernia University (4-6) offense netted five goals behind four goals off the stick of Caroline Martin en route to a 5-3 victory over Elizabethtown College (2-7) Tuesday night in a non-conference field hockey clash at Elizabethtown's Wolf Field.

The Golden Wolves tallied three goals in the first quarter and netted four in the first half en route to the 5-3 victory. Junior forward Caroline Martin netted four goals on the night and posted a hat trick in the first half alone. Martin's four goals is the most in a game by a Golden Wolf since 2017 when Morgan Mondschein tallied four in a 5-4 victory over King's.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves jumped ahead early with two goals in the first seven minutes of the contest to grab a quick 2-0 lead. Kelsy McClintock started things off with an unassisted goal just six minutes into the first half. Alvernia doubled its lead a minute later after Ava Michael played a great ball into the circle to McClintock, McClintock then crossed the ball to the stick of Caroline Martin who drove toward goal, reversed and put the ball into the back of the net to make it a 2-0 game.
  • Alvernia added a third goal in the first quarter after winning a penalty corner, the ball came to the of the circle and then found its way to Sarah Schaffer, Schaffer then drove the ball towards the goal and in the direction of Caroline Martin, Martin then swept the ball past the Elizabethtown goalie and into the back of the cage to give the Golden Wolves a three goal lead after the first 15 minutes.
  • The Golden Wolves tacked on a fourth goal with eight minutes to go in the first half after another corner inserted by Sofia Mollura, Mollura then received the ball at the near post, she centered the ball across the face of goal to the stick of Martin who did not miss and tallied her third goal of the game and made it a 4-0 ballgame.
  • The Blue Jays grabbed one back in the final minute of the first half when Sophie Myers assisted Hannah Long to make it 4-1 heading to the half.
  • Martin continued her career night with her fourth goal of the game six minutes into the third quarter. Mollura inserted the ball to Lillian Case off a corner, Case then fed the ball back to Mollura and she then found Martin in front of goal and yet again, Martin put the ball into the back of the cage and pushed the Alvernia lead back to four, 5-1.
  • Elizabethtown notched two more goals in the fourth quarter but it was not enough as the Golden Wolves held on for the 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays.
