Alvernia Downs PSU Brandywine, 3-0

Media, Pa. (Sep. 3, 2025) - Alvernia University (2-1) downed Penn State Brandywine (0-1) in three sets on Wednesday night in non-conference women's volleyball action at Penn State Brandywine.

The Golden Wolves took the first set 25-10 after jumping out to a 13-3 lead in the opening frame. The Lions kept it close in the second set, but Alvernia pulled away with a 25-18 set win to take a two-set lead. The Golden Wolves cruised to another 25-10 win in the third set for the sweep.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia started out the first set with back-to-back kills from Allison Wolf and Angelina Salera, and opened the set on a 5-1 run. The Golden Wolves built their lead up to 11-3 off of back-to-back kills from Allie Evangelista and Hailey McDevitt
  • The Lions called a timeout, but Alvernia came out of the break with an ace from Marli Emrich to make it a 12-3 game. The Lions never threatened the rest of the way in the opening set, and Alvernia secured the first frame on a Penn State service error for the 25-10
  • The second set was contested from the jump. A kill from Wolf tied the set at 7-7 early on and sparked a quick 4-0 run by the Golden Wolves to make it 11-7. The Lions responded with a 5-0 run of their own to take the 12-11 lead.
  • Trailing by a point later in the set, Alvernia closed out the set on an 11-2 run. Alvernia had two aces from Caroline Buggy during the run, and Olivia Rohrbaugh added three kills and an ace of her own for the 25-18 finish.
  • The Lions took an early 2-0 lead in the third set, but the Golden Wolves quickly turned the tide. A 10-3 run in favor of the Golden Wolves made it a 10-5 lead. Alvernia kept it rolling later in the set. Back-to-back aces and a kill by McDevitt made it a 12-point set, 19-7.
  • The Golden Wolves closed out the set and the match by forcing three attack errors by the Lions for the 25-10 final.
