Bears Roll Golden Wolves, 41-17

Reading, Pa. (Sep. 5, 2025) - Ursinus College (1-0) used a 34-point first half to cruise to a 41-17 win over Alvernia University (0-1) on Friday night in a non-conference football matchup at Alvernia University.

The Bears scored a touchdown on their first five possessions of the first half. Alvernia was poised to enter the halftime break trailing, but the Golden Wolves put together a 13-play, 95-yard drive in the final 1:46 of the break to make it a 34-10 game going into the break.

The Bears pushed their lead to 41-10 with nine minutes remaining in the third. Alvernia scored a touchdown late in the third to get back within 24. But, both teams went scoreless the rest of the way for the 41-10 final.

How it Happened
  • Ursinus marched right down the field on its first drive of the game and went 75 yards in just five minutes of game time. The Bears then forced an errant throw by Alvernia quarterback Jaden Randal on Alvernia's first possession of the game that resulted in an interception with a 34-yard return back to  the Alvernia 21. It then took Ursinus four plays to find the endzone again after a short touchdown pass put the Bears up 13-0.
  • Ursinus forced an Alvernia three and out on the next series to get the ball back around midfield and Ursinus found the endzone almost immediately. After three plays, running back Brooklyn Jones took the ball up the middle for 25 yards and made it a 20-0 ballgame heading into the second quarter.
  • The Golden Wolves put their first points of the game up on the next possession with a nine play drive that ended in a Gage Thomas 42 yard field goal put Alvernia on the board and made it a 20-3 game. The 42-yarder marked a new program record for longest made field goal, bettering the previous record of 41 yards set by Joe Fragale.
  • Ursinus responded with a seven play, 70 yard drive that ended in a 27 yard touchdown pass to answer the Alvernia field goal and push the lead to 24, 27-3. The Bears then forced another Alvernia interception on a broken screen play that fell into the hands of a Ursinus linebacker and he returned the interception to the Alvernia five yard line to put the Bears inside the Alvernia ten. Ursinus took four plays to put the ball in the endzone and pushed the lead to 34-3.
  • Alvernia and Ursinus traded punts on the next two drives before the Golden Wolves got the ball back on their own five yard line and ripped off a 13 play, 95 yard touchdown drive. Jaden Randall found Treson Whitlow down the right sideline with 17 seconds to go in the half for a 37 yard pitch and catch that put the Golden Wolves on the three yard line with ten seconds to go in the half. Randall then took the ball up the middle for a three yard touchdown run on the very next play to make it 34-10 at the half.
  • Ursinus bounced back with a touchdown on the next drive and it took the Bears just six plays to go 59 yards and extend the score to 41-10.
  • Alvernia then went three and out on the next drive before the defense stopped Ursinus on fourth down to get the ball back with under seven to play in the third quarter. The Golden Wolves recorded a second ten plus play drive, this one a 12 play, 60 yard drive that ended in yet another quarterback run up the middle for a touchdown after Dante Viccharelli two yard rush up the middle made it 41-17 Ursinus heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Neither team did much offensively in the fourth quarter as the Golden Wolves threw a third interception and Ursinus tallied a punt and turned it over on downs but it did not matter as the Bears secured the 41-17 victory over the Golden Wolves.
