Reading, Pa. (January 10, 2026) - Alvernia University (8-4-0, 7-3-0) used two second period goals to power its way to a 3-1 victory over Hood College (7-5-2, 5-5-2) Saturday afternoon in a MAC women's ice hockey clash at Body Zone. 

The Golden Wolves grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first 42 seconds of the first period and then tacked on two more goals in the second period en route to the two goal, 3-1 victory. The Blazers tallied an early goal in the third period and out shot the Golden Wolves 37-23 on goal but Alvernia's Stephanie Skorupa tallied 36 saves to lead Alvernia to victory. 

How it Happened 

• The Golden Wolves broke open the scoring in the first 42 seconds of the game after Stephanie Skorupa and Laila Tosi connected with Alexis Oliveira who carried the puck up the ice and fired the puck into the back of the net to make it 1-0 Alvernia within the first minute. 
• The Blazers would then record 12 shots on the Alvernia net in the rest of the first period but were unable to put the puck into the back of the net thanks to Skorupa saving all 12 as the Golden Wolves held a one goal lead heading into the first intermission. 
• Alvernia struck again early in the second period thanks to a Tosi goal from the blue line. Noelle De Magistris won a faceoff in the offensive zone that found the stick of Gillian Evans, Evans then dished the puck to Tosi at the blue line and Tosi ripped a shot that found its way through everyone and into the back of the net to push the Golden Wolves lead to 2-0 just under two minutes into the period. 
• Alvernia tacked on a third goal with under 13 minutes to play in the period thanks to an Emma Hart goal. Evans tallied another assist after she fed the puck to Addy Gularte, Gularte carried the puck up the ice and fired a shot into the shin pad of Hood's Emily Cross, Hart then picked up the loose puck and buried it into the back of the net and make it a 3-0 game in favor of the Golden Wolves. 
• The Blazers fired 17 shots at the Alvernia net in the final 13 minutes of the period and put 11 of those on goal but Skorupa would not budge as Alvernia headed back into the room for the final intermission with a three goal lead. 
• Hood came out of the intermission and cut the deficit to two just a minute and 24 seconds into the final period after Renata Petrella assisted Lillian Scardicchio to make it 3-1. 
• The Blazers would fire eight more shots on the Alvernia net but yet again, Skorupa proved up to the task as she saved all eight and secured the 3-1 victory for the Golden Wolves. 

Inside the Box Score 

• Laila Tosi led the way for the Golden Wolves with a goal and an assist and also recorded a +2.
• Emma Hart and Alexis Oliveira both netted goals for Alvernia and Hart recorded six faceoff wins and Oliveira tallied five. 
• Gillian Evans tallied two assists and Addy Gularte, Stephanie Skorupa and Noelle De Magistris all tacked on assists. 
• Stephanie Skorupa recorded 36 saves in net for the Golden Wolves and earned the win in net and it was the first game of the 2025-2026 campaign where she recorded 30 or more saves.
