Frederick, Md. (January 21, 2026) - Alvernia University (8-7, 2-3) used a late push in the final two minutes of the game to pull within ten but it was not enough as #19 Hood College (14-2, 5-0) took down the Golden Wolves, 104-94, Wednesday night in a MAC Commonwealth men's basketball clash at Hood's Woodsboro Bank Arena.
The Blazers held a one point, 43-42, advantage after the first half and then extended its lead to 21 halfway through the second half. The Golden Wolves then made a late push to pull within eight, 100-92, but it was not enough as the Blazers secured the ten point, 104-94 victory.Â
How it HappenedÂ
- The Golden Wolves came out and grabbed an early 4-0 lead after back to back buckets by Janye Stanley but the Blazers responded with a three ball and a driving layup to swing the lead in their favor, 5-4.Â
- The Golden Wolves and the Blazers then traded buckets back and forth over the next five minutes of play as Alvernia and Hood were knotted at 17 apiece with ten minutes to play in the first half.Â
- Alvernia's Robert Cottrell then knocked a three throw down to give Alvernia the lead and was followed by a Staney three ball to push the Golden Wolves lead to four, 20-17.Â
- The Blazers bounced back with a 6-2 scoring run over the next two minutes of the half but Alvernia responded with back to back buckets from Stanley and Kareem Diaz to give Alvernia the lead back, 27-23 with six minutes to play in the first half.Â
- Hood responded again with a scoring run, this one an 8-3 run that gave them the lead back, 31-30, with under four to play but Alvernia's Elijah Hamilton posted six straight points for the Golden Wolves to give Alvernia the 36-35 advantage.Â
- The Blazers then ended the first half by scoring eight of the final 14 points of the half to take a narrow, one point, 43-42 lead into the halftime break.Â
- Stanley led the Golden Wolves with 11 points in the first half. Hamilton followed with ten, Cottrell added seven and Rasheem Dearry tallied six.Â
- Hood came out of the halftime break and rattled off a 9-4 scoring run that extended its lead to six, 52-46 after the first three minutes of the second half.Â
- The Golden Wolves then pulled within three, 61-58, after a 12-9 scoring stretch for the Golden Wolves over the next four minutes of play but the Blazers responded with eight of the next nine points to extend the advantage to ten, 69-59, with under 12 to play in regulation.Â
- Alvernia's Cottrell knocked down a three to spark an 8-4 run to pull the Golden Wolves within six, 73-67 with under ten to play but the Blazers rattled off a 19-4 scoring stretch that made it a 21 point, 92-71, ballgame with five minutes to play.Â
- The Golden Wolves chipped away at the lead and rattled off a 17-7 scoring run that pulled the Golden Wolves within 11, 99-88 with a minute to play.Â
- Alvernia then cut the deficit to eight after four straight free throws from Keon Long-Mtume made it a 100-92 ballgame but Hood would go on to knock down four free throws to seal the game and secure the 104-94 victory over Alvernia.Â

- Elijah Hamilton led the Golden Wolves with 21 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two blocks.Â
- Janye Stanley followed Hamilton with a 20 point performance and grabbed six rebounds as well.Â
- Robert Cottrell posted 13 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals for the Golden Wolves and Rasheem Dearry added 14 points and three steals.Â
- Kareem Diaz rounded out the Golden Wolves in double figures with ten points and two rebounds.Â
