Wilkes Bests Alvernia, 5-1

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (January 24, 2026) - Alvernia University (11-7-0, 9-5-0) dropped game two of the weekend series to Wilkes University (9-6-3, 6-6-2), 5-1, Saturday afternoon in a MAC men's ice hockey matchup at the Toyota Sportsplex.

The Colonels jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period and then pushed it to a three goal lead after the second period. Alvernia pulled one back in the third period but the Colonels tacked on two more insurance goals to secure the victory.

How it Happened
  • Wilkes got things going in the first period and took a 1-0 lead after the first 12 minutes of the period thanks to a Nate Terski goal to put the Colonels up 1-0.
  • Wilkes then doubled its lead in the final minute of the period after Cam Lowe found the back of the net to send the Colonels into the room with a 2-0 advantage after the first 20 minutes of action.
  • Lowe then tallied his second goal of the game and the lone goal of the second period thanks to assists from Tyler Boudreau and Mason Vonk to make it a 3-0 game heading into the final intermission.
  • Wilkes pushed the lead to four, 4-0, in the first three minutes of the third period thanks to a Bryan Weissler goal.
  • Alvernia got on the board with ten minutes to play in the game after Vincent Servizzi dispossessed a Wilkes player and played the puck to Matthew Imbriano, Imbriano then carried the puck up ice, cut to his left and fired a shot from range that bested the Wilkes goalie and snuck perfectly into the top left corner of the goal to make it a 4-1 game.
  • The Colonels would respond with a power play goal in the final four minutes of action to seal the 5-1 victory over the Golden Wolves and halve the weekend doubleheader.
