Colonels Down Golden Wolves, 8-1

Reading, Pa. (January 24, 2026) - Alvernia University (8-8-0, 7-7-0) fell to Wilkes University (15-1-1, 13-1-1), 8-1, Saturday afternoon in a MAC women's ice hockey matchup at Body Zone. 

The Golden Wolves took the early lead after ten minutes of game time but Wilkes leveled the score in the final five minutes of the first period to make it a 1-1 game after the first 20 minutes of play. Wilkes then rattled off seven unanswered goals en route to the victory. 

How it Happened 
  • Alvernia grabbed the lead ten minutes into the first period when Addy Gularte dispossessed a Wilkes defender and connected with Alexis Oliveira who then slotted the puck into the left side of the netting to put the Golden Wolves up 1-0. 
  • Wilkes answered back five minutes later after Megan Bell assisted Drew Hayhurst to send the game into the first intermission level at one. 
  • The Colonels offense then blew up in the second period and netted five goals in the second period to take a commanding, 6-1 lead. Wilkes netted two goals in the first two minutes of the period and then added the final three in the last nine minutes of the second period. 
  • Wilkes then tacked on two more insurance goals in the final period of the day to secure the 8-1 victory over the Golden Wolves and secured the weekend sweep. 

Inside the Box Score 
  • Alexis Oliveira netted the lone goal for the Golden Wolves and Addy Gularte provided the assist. Oliveira also led the Golden Wolves with 11 faceoff wins and also tallied five shots on goal while Gularte added eight faceoff wins. 
  • Riley Hill recorded three shots on goal and Kathryn Palmer tallied seven faceoff wins.
  • Stephanie Skorupa recorded 42 saves in net for the Golden Wolves and her 42 save matches a career high which also came against Wilkes last year.
