Reading, Pa. (January 31, 2026) - Alvernia University recorded three dual wins Saturday afternoon on Jack McCloskey Court at the Alvernia Duals. The Golden Wolves hosted Southern Virginia University, Marymount University, Albright College and Garrett College in a dual style round robin Saturday. 

The Golden Wolves started the day with a 49-0 shutout win over Southern Virginia and then followed that up with a 32-14 victory over Marymount. Alvernia closed out the day with a 42-6 win over Garrett College to end the day 3-0 at its home duals. 

Round 2: Alvernia: 49, Southern Virginia: 0

How it Happened 

• Ethan Staples got things started for the Golden Wolves with a 4-1 decision over Jaton Wellington to put Alvernia up 3-0 early. 
• Steven Harris followed Staples with a pin in just 16 seconds over Talon Whicker at 133 pounds and Quinn Tobin posted a 15-0 tech fall over Porter Kinne to put the Golden Wolves up 14-0. 
• The Golden Wolves then ripped off three straight falls in a combined 4:08 to swing the lead to 32-0. Sebastino Spina posted a pin in 1:16 over Richie Kulessa at 149 pounds, Ian Vitalo pinned Kyler North in just 15 seconds and Luke Thomas recorded a victory by fall over Wyatt Kinne in 2:37 to round out the stretch of falls. 
• William Knapp then recorded a 19-10 major decision over Tanner Giatras at 174 pounds and Hayden McLellan followed Knapp with a major decision of his own, a 15-4 MD over Harrison Hoopes to make it 40-0. 
• Jason Chiodi and Owen Reber rounded things out for the Golden Wolves. Chiodi recorded a tight, 6-5, decision over Tradyn Henderson at 197 pounds and Owen Reber posted a pin in 1:08 over Marc Richardson to secure the 49-0 victory for the Golden Wolves. 

Round 3: Alvernia: 32, Marymount: 14

How it Happened 

• Marymount grabbed the early lead over the Golden Wolves after Ian Morales tech falled Rocco Monteferrante at 125 pounds and Joseph Custodio recorded a decision over Steven Harris at 133 pounds to take a 8-0 lead. 
• Tobin then turned things around for the Golden Wolves with a victory by fall over Temuujin Erdenetuya at 141 pounds to get Alvernia on the board. 
• Spina then fell to Adonis Iparraguirre by decision, 7-6, at 149 pounds to extend the Marymount lead to 11-6. 
• Vitalo and Thomas brought the Golden Wolves back after Vitalo recorded a pin over Joshua Wong at 157 pounds and Thomas recorded a 19-1 tech fall to give the Golden Wolves the 17-11 advantage. 
• Marymount pulled within three, 17-14, after a 10-4 decision over Knapp but the Golden Wolves closed out the dual with two pins and a decision. McLellan recorded a pin at 184 pounds and Chiodi snuck out yet another close decision, 5-4, at 197 pounds. Owen Reber then sealed the deal with a pin over Basheer Hadi in 1:38 to secure the 32-14 victory for the Golden Wolves. 

Round 4: Alvernia: 42, Garrett College: 6

How it Happened 

• Staples started things off again with a decision over Nicholas Anderson at 125 pounds to put Alvernia in the lead. 
• Harris and Tobin followed with back to back falls at 133 and 141 pounds to push the Alvernia lead to 15-0. 
• Spina recorded a 14-4 major decision over Noah Obinna at 149 pounds and Vitalo recorded another pin at 157 pounds with a pin over Conor Duncan in just 15 seconds to extend the lead to 25-0. 
• Ryan Lepore fell to Brooks Smith at 165 pounds by fall but Knapp responded with a 11-10 decision over Everett Nichols at 174 pounds. 
• Ryad Belguet kept things going with a 15-4 major decision over Braeden Poorbaugh at 184 pounds and Chiodi followed with a 12-2 major decision over Liam DeBaugh at 197 pounds. 
• Tristan Cooper then rounded out the day with a victory by forfeit at 285 pounds to secure the 42-6 victory for the Golden Wolves and a 3-0 record on the day.
