Mayfield Anchors Golden Wolves Against No.6 Stevenson in 2-0 Loss

Owings Mills, Md. (October 3, 2026) — Alvernia Field Hockey (4-5, 0-1 MAC) dropped their conference opener to the No. 6 ranked Stevenson Mustangs (10-0, 1-0 MAC), 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.

The quick-strike attack of the Mustangs blew past the Golden Wolves for two first-quarter goals that had the Golden Wolves playing from behind early. After today's win, Stevenson has held nine of its 10 opponents scoreless, only conceding one goal on the season to No. 2 Salisbury in a 4-1 win.

How It Happened:

  • Stevenson's first goal came courtesy of a team effort as it was sparked by the back line of the Mustangs who played the ball to Hailey Mertz. Mertz sent a long ball toward the net that was deflected up and over the pads of Jazmin Mayfield by Gracyn Catalano.

  • The Mustangs struck again less than five minutes later off of a corner opportunity. Addie Brandt drove a ball from the top of the arc toward the Golden Wolves' goal that was deflected by Monica Druckemiller to extend the Mustangs' lead to 2-0.

Inside the Box Score:

  • Jazmin Mayfield notched 11 saves for the third time this season against the Mustangs' 13 shots on cage and kept the Golden Wolves in the game against one of the nation's top teams. The Golden Wolves become the fourth team the Mustangs have faced to hold them to two goals or less.

  • Ava Michael took the only shot for the Golden Wolves in the game.
