Reading, Pa. (February 11, 2026) - Alvernia University (11-10, 5-6) fell to #12/15 Hood College (20-2, 11-0), 81-80, Wednesday evening after Hood's Jevon Yarbrough knocked down the go ahead jumper with eight seconds to go to give the Blazers the victory over the Golden Wolves in a MAC Commonwealth men's basketball clash on Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court.

The Golden Wolves held a two point, 44-42, advantage at the halftime break and even held a  70-65 lead with five minutes to play but the Blazers rattled off a 16-10 scoring run to end the game including 12 of the 16 points coming from Yarbrough en route to the 81-80 victory.

How it Happened
  • The Blazers came out and grabbed the early lead in the contest in the first four minutes with an 8-2 advantage but the Golden Wolves responded with a three from Rasheem Dearry and another from Janye Stanley to tie the game at eight.
  • The Golden Wolves and the Blazers traded buckets back and forth over the next five minutes of gametime before Hood knocked down a driving layup and two free throws to take a four point, 20-16 lead with ten minutes to go in the half.
  • Alvernia answered with a Kareem Diaz layup but Hood responded with a three pointer to push it to a five point, 23-18 advantage.
  • The Golden Wolves answered again with a 7-0 scoring run over the next two minutes with all seven coming from Dearry. Dearry knocked down a pull up jumper and a floater to pull within one, 23-22. Dearry then buried a three pointer thanks to an offensive rebound from Diaz to put Alvernia back in the lead, 25-23, with under eight to play.
  • The Blazers converted a layup off an offensive rebound to tie it at 25 but Alvernia's Mason Jones hit two free throws and Dearry made a layup off of a steal to make it 29-25 Golden Wolves with 6:40 to play in the half.
  • Hood's Yarbrough then came down and knocked down a three that sparked a 13-5 scoring run over the next two minutes that put the Blazers back in the lead, 38-34.
  • Alvernia bounced back once more in the first half thanks to yet another Dearry bucket from behind the arc that propelled a 10-4 Alvernia scoring stretch to end the first half and take a 44-42 advantage into the halftime break.
  • Rasheem Dearry led the Golden Wolves with 22 points in the first half. Kareem Diaz and Elijah Hamilton followed with eight points and Janye Stanley and Mason Jones both recorded three points.
  • The Golden Wolves picked up where they left off in the first half to start the second and jumped out to a ten point, 55-45, lead after an 11-3 run to start the half and forced a Hood timeout. Hamilton tallied four of the 11 and Stanlet knocked down a three during the sequence.
  • The Blazers came out of the timeout and hit two three pointers on back to back possessions to cut it to a four point lead, 55-51, but four points from Jones and another bucket from Dearry pushed the Alvernia lead back to ten, 61-51, with 13 minutes to play.
  • Hood continued to fight back into the game and rattled off eight straight points to pull within two, 61-59, with 11 to play in the half.

Hood started things off with two free throws to pull within one, 75-74, Alvernia answered with a Stanley three on the next trip down the floor to make it 78-74. Hood's Yarbrough answered Stanley's three with one of his own to cut it to one but Alvernia answered again with a Dearry floater in the lane to make it 80-77 with 57 seconds to play.
  • Hood's Yarbrough answered yet again for the Blazers and recorded a driving layup with 49 seconds left to make it a one point, 80-79, Alvernia lead.
  • On the next trip down the floor the Golden Wolves got a good look for three in the corner but it rattled off the back iron, there was then a scramble for the loose rebound but it ended up going out of bounds on the Golden Wolves and gave the Blazers a chance with 20 seconds to play.
  • Hood came down the floor and yep, you guessed it, Jevon Yarbrough had the ball in his hands. Yarbrough drove to the right and pulled up at the elbow and even with two Alvernia defenders with hands in his face, he knocked down a two point jumper to put the Blazers up 81-80, with eight seconds to play.
