DeGout Scores 1,000, Leads Alvernia to 49-39 Win Over Hood

Frederick, Md. (Feb. 11, 2026) - Alvernia University (12-10, 7-4) jumped out to a 31-18 lead at the half and held off Hood College (3-19, 0-11) in the second half to secure a 49-39 win over the Blazers on Wednesday night in MAC Commonwealth Women's Basketball action at Hood.

Alvernia led 15-9 through the first frame before the Blazers closed within three, 15-12, with 6:30 to play in the half. Alvernia then erupted on a 16-6 run in the final five and a half minutes of the first half to take a 31-18 lead into the break. The Blazers went on to outscore Alvernia 21-18 in the first half, but Alvernia's first-half buffer was enough to take the 49-39 win.

Alvernia fifth-year Jennah DeGout needed nine points to hit the 1,000 career point threshold, and DeGout posted a 12 point performance to eclipse the milestone and become the 16th player in program history to do so.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board with a Taryn Woodson layup off of a Hood steal in the opening minute of the contest and took a 4-2 lead a minute later on a jumper by Woodson. After nearly four minutes of scoreless action, Alvernia got back on the board and pushed its lead to four, 6-2, on an Alani White jumper off a Ryleigh Poole steal.
  • Alvernia made it a six point contest, 10-4, on another layup from White; this time off of her own steal. But, a Hood 3-pointer quickly brought the Blazers back within a possession, 10-7, with 3:30 to play in the opening quarter.
  • A 3-pointer from Grace Dobrzynski off the bench followed by a jumper from Samantha Wade made it an eight point contest, 15-7, with 1:40 to play in the half. The Blazers got two points back off of free throws to close out the quarter to make it a 15-9 game going into the second quarter.
  • The Golden Wolves and Blazers traded points in the opening minutes of the second quarter and the Golden Wolves held a slight 15-12 edge over the Blazers with six minutes to play in the quarter. Alvernia then erupted on a 16-6 run to jump out to a 31-18 lead going into the break. DeGout and Ryleigh Poole led ALvernia with five points each during the run, and Jordan Reynolds, Meghan Ruth, and Jordyn Ingelido put up two each as the Golden Wolves took the 13 point advantage into the break.
  • Alvernia held Hood scoreless for the first four minutes of the second half while the Golden Wolves pushed their lead up to 16, 34-18. Alvernia continued to hold a 16 point advantage after DeGout knocked down a pair of free throws with 5:46 to play in the quarter. Her second of the pair put her in the 1,000 point club.
  • The Blazers outscored Alvernia 10-5 the remainder of the quarter, but Alvernia maintained a double-digit lead, 41-30, going into the final ten minutes.
  • The Golden Wolves opened the fourth quarter with a layup from Woodson to take a 43-30 advantage. The Blazers got within nine, 43-34, on a jumper with 8:48 to play, but another Woodson layup gave Alvernia right back the double-digit lead, 45-34, with 8:33 to play. The Blazers held Alvernia without a field goal in the final seven and a half minutes, but Alvernia's defense held Hood to just five points in that same time frame. The Golden Wolves closed out the game with a pair of made free throws by Poole to secure the 49-39 win.
