Saints Down Golden Wolves, 14-4

Reading, Pa. (February 18, 2026) - Alvernia University (0-1) dropped its season opener to Marymount University (1-0), 14-4, Wednesday evening in a non-conference women's lacrosse matchup on Alvernia's Turf Field. 

The Saints took an 8-3 lead at the halftime break and then extended their lead to 10-4 after the third quarter. Marymount then added four more goals in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. 

How it Happened 
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board first with an unassisted goal from Lindsay Kerchner just over three minutes into the first quarter to put Alvernia up 1-0. 
  • Marymount responded with a leveler two minutes later and then tacked on two more goals in the next three minutes to take the 3-1 lead with six minutes to play in the first quarter. 
  • The Saints pushed the lead to three, 4-1, with a goal in the final minute of the quarter to take a three goal advantage into the second quarter. 
  • Marymount then broke the game open in the second quarter and rattled off three goals in the first seven minutes of the second stanza to push its lead to six, 7-1. 
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed one back with five to play in the first half after Kerchner assisted Makenna Thomas to make it 7-2. 
  • The Saints responded 28 seconds later to push it to 8-2. 
  • Alvernia closed out the half with another Kerchner goal with two minutes to play in the half to cut the deficit to five, 8-3, heading into the halftime break. 
  • Marymount extended the lead to 9-3 in the first four minutes of the third quarter and then pushed it to 10-3 in the final two minutes of the quarter. 
  • Alvernia answered back with a Hannah Tyler goal thanks to a Grace Weissenberger assist with a minute to go in the third and made it a 10-4 game. 
  • The Saints then tallied all four goals in the fourth quarter to secure the 14-4 victory over the Golden Wolves. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Lindsay Kerchner led the way for the Golden Wolves with two goals and an assist. 
  • Makenna Thomas and Hannah Tyler also netted goals for Alvernia. Thomas also picked up three ground balls and two draw controls and Tyler caused a turnover and grabbed a draw control. 
  • Grace Weissenberger tallied the other assist for Alvernia and caused a turnover. 
  • Addison Bolz recorded six saves in net for the Golden Wolves.
