Golden Wolves Power Past Lions, 77-68

Reading, Pa. (Feb. 7, 2026) - Alvernia Women's Basketball (11-10, 6-4) evened it season series with Albright College (9-12, 5-5) on Saturday afternoon with the Golden Wolves defeating the Lions, 77-68, in MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action at Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court.

After the Lions erased a 16-point lead to stun Alvernia in the first meeting of the year back in January, the Golden Wolves got their revenge on Saturday. Alvernia posted 25 points in the first quarter and took a six point advantage into the second quarter. Alvernia led the rest of the contest, building its up to as much as 15 points early in the second half. The Lions threatened in the fourth quarter, but Alvernia pulled back away to secure the 77-68 win.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia got on the board on an opening possession 3-pointer from Samantha Wade. The Lions responded and took a 5-3 lead before another 3-pointer from Wade got Alvernia back in front, 6-5, with 7:25 to play in the opening quarter. The Lions once again retook the lead and led 12-8 at the midpoint of the quarter.
  • Alvernia evened the game at 12-12 on an Alani White layup and again 15-15 on Wade's third 3-pointer of the quarter. The Lions retook the lead one more time before Alvernia evened the game at 17-17 on a putback layup from Jennah DeGout. A pair of free throws by DeGout with a minute to play in the quarter gave Alvernia the 19-17 lead, and Alvernia would not give up the lead again. Alvernia ended the quarter with a pair of 3-pointers from Kyla Reed and Jordyn Ingelido to take a 25-19 lead into the second quarter. 
  • After a scoreless two minutes on both sides, Alvernia extended its lead to eight, 27-19 on an Ingelido layup off of a Meghan Ruth steal. Alvernia then led by four, 31-27, with five minutes to play in the half. The Golden Wolves then went on a 9-2 run to build its lead up to 11, 40-29, with a minute to play in the half. DeGout accounted for four of Alvernia's points during the run, and a deep shot by Grace Dobrzynski added three more. The Lions and Golden Wolves exchanged points in the final minute of the half before Albright closed out the quarter with a buzzer-beater. But, the Golden Wolves took the 42-33 advantage into the second half.
  • The Golden Wolves opened the third quarter on a 6-0 run to push their lead to 15, 48-33, with 8:43 to play in the quarter. The Lions responded with a 11-1 to close back within five, 49-44, with 4:10 to play in the quarter.
  • A Wade layup gave Alvernia back some breathing room, and the Golden Wolves built their lead back up to 11, 57-46, over the next three minutes and change with a White layup giving the Golden Wolves the double-digit lead. But, the Lions closed out the quarter with a 3-pointer to get back into single digits,, 59-47, going into the final frame. 
  • Both sides exchanged 3-pointers to open the fourth quarter, and Albright closed within five on a layup from Kennedy Cooper with seven minutes to play.
  • Wade's fourth 3-pointer of the afternoon followed by a layup gave Alvernia back the double-digit lead, 66-56, with 6:27 to play. The Lions got within five once more, but Alvernia kept Albright from threatening any further. The Golden Wolves closed out the game scoring the final five points of the game, four of which came from Meghan Ruth, to secure the 77-68 win.
Inside the Box Score
  • Samantha Wade led Alvernia with a career-high 22 points off of 9-for-17 shooting. She finished the afternoon going 4-for-7 from 3-point range.
  • Jennah DeGout finished with a 15 point, 12 rebound double-double. Alani White matched her career high of 10 points.
